Teaching can be considered a vocation or calling because the Latin word "vocare" from which it derives means "to call". As a vocation, teaching requires passion and discernment as the teacher is responsible for imparting wisdom to students. While vocation is often associated with priesthood, marriage, and singled blessedness, it can also apply to professions, making teaching a vocation in the sense that one feels called to educate others.

vocation is the word which strongly appealed to me. Came from the Latin word “vocare” which means to call, the profession to be a teacher is a calling. This means that teaching requires passion and discernment because the individual who would like to be a teacher is the one responsible for the wisdom that is about to be acquainted by the students. It is already in our senses that when we hear the word vocation, it automatically implies to Priesthood, Marriage and single blessedness. This entailment should not be taken wrong, it’s just that we should not limit our interpretation of it, because vocation can also be applied to professions. Thus, teaching is a vocation, and to teach, is to be called.
