Our shared goal is continually to improve learner performance. This is an effort which is
strengthened through close collaboration between the Basic Education Sector and the South
Africa’s private and public sectors.

It gives me great pleasure to inform you that you have been favoured with the AVBOB STEP
12 Examination Preparation Guides for South Africa’s Grade 12 languages, a product of a
long-standing partnership between the Department of Basic Education and AVBOB.

Through these guides, AVBOB aims to provide language examination support to all Grade
12 teachers and learners. These guides will serve as a valuable self-help resource for
learners.

Through AVBOB STEP 12, AVBOB is making available 33 Examination Preparation


Guides, each meticulously compliant with the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement
(CAPS); and written in accordance with the most recent Examination Guidelines for the
twelve South African languages offered in Grade 12. Teachers, learners and interested
parties, may download these guides at no cost from www.avbobstep12.co.za.

The initial set of AVBOB STEP 12 Examination Preparation Guides – in all 11 official South
African languages, comprises one guide for each of the three National Senior Certificate
examination papers, and covers both Home and First Additional Languages:

1. Language in context;
2. Literature; and
3. Creative Writing.

Each guide covers themes as directed in the curriculum and focuses on important areas
covered in the examination papers. By paying attention to time management in the exams,
the AVBOB STEP 12 guides can also assist learners in alleviating anxiety and stress.

As the Department of Basic Education, we encourage Grade 12 language teachers and


other educators of Grade 12 learners to embrace the AVBOB STEP 12 Examination
Preparation Guides, which we have reviewed and supported, as valuable additional
resources within their education toolkits.

Lo mhlahlandlela wenzelwe ukukusiza ukuthi uthole amamaki amahle ePhepheni lesi-3. Unezingxenye ezimbili: ingxoxo
ngesakhiwo sePhepha lesi-3, ilandelwe yindlela okuhlelwe ngayo okuqukethwe imibhalo yokuziqambela. Ulwazi
lwalezi zingxenye zombili luyadingeka ekukuphumeleliseni lapho ubhala iphepha lemibhalo yokuziqambela.
Isakhiwo kanye nokuqukethwe kwePhepha lesi-3 kwesekeleke esiTatimendeni seNqubomgomo yoHlelo lwezeMfundo

3. Okuqukethwe: Ngiliphendula kanjani iPhepha lesi-3?
Khumbula: IPhepha lesi-3 liqondene nemibhalo ebhalwayo yokuziqambela. Kumele ukhombise ikhono lakho lokubhala
futhi ukhombise ukuthi uyasiqondisisa isakhiwo kanye nomumo wombhalo ngamunye bese ubhala njengoba kulindelekile.
Isiqephu A nesiqephu B kanye sesiqephu C kuzoxoxwa ngazo ngokwehlukana ngezansi.

3.1 Isiqephu A: Indaba/I-eseyi (ULimi lwaseKhaya noLimi LokuQala LokwEngeza)


Esiqeshini A kugcizelelwa umbhalo wokuziqambela. Kumele ubhale indaba oziqambela yona. Akumele ungene egunjini
lokuhlola nendaba oza nayo uyiphethe ngekhanda bese uzama ukuyiphoqelela ezihlokweni ezibhaliwe ngoba lokho angeke
kukusize. Nakhu okumele ukwenze:
ƒ Funda izihloko noma bukisisa izithombe bese unquma ukuthi yikuphi okhululeka ukubhala ngakho. Khetha isihloko
esisodwa noma isithombe esiphathelene nezinto ozaziyo noma onolwazi ngazo.
ƒ Thatha isinqumo sokuthi uzobhala ngaluphi uhlobo lwendaba/lwe-eseyi. Isibonelo, i-eseyi elandisayo, i-eseyi echazayo,
i-eseyi edaza inkani, i-eseyi eqhathanisayo noma i-eseyi eningayo. Khumbula ukuthi lolo nalolo hlobo lwe-eseyi
lunezimpawu zalo kanye nezidingo (okuzokhulunywa ngazo ngezansi).
ƒ Hlela i-eseyi yakho ngaphambi kokuba uyibhale.

ukuyilandela lapho ehlela. Ungasebenzisa uhla lwamagama, uhlaka, imidwebo esabulwembu, isifanekiso esidwetshiweyo/
ifulowushadi noma yikuphi okungakusiza ukuba uhlele imicabango yakho nokuthi indaba yakho izokuma kanjani. Noma

ƒ YINI engiyihlelayo? Qala ngokunquma ukuthi YINI ofuna ukuyisho endabeni yakho esigabeni esiyisingeniso, ezigabeni
ezenza umzimba wendaba nokuthi indaba uzoyiphetha kanjani. Bhala amagama asemqoka awukhiye/imicabango; bheka
ukuthi kukhona ukuxhumana okuhle kwezigaba; bheka ukuthi imicabango igeleza ngendlela efanele. Nquma ukuthi
umbhalo wakho wokuziqambela uzowethula KANJANI: ulimi/irejista ozoyisebenzisa; izimpawu zobuciko bokubhala;
isitayela; ufuna ukuyiqala kanjani kanye nokuthi ufuna ukuyiphetha kanjani.
ƒ Musa ukuphuma esihlokweni sakho ngokubhala izinto ezingahambelani naso. Konke kumele kulandelane kube yinto
ethungekile, indaba igeleze ibe yinto eyodwa wena owabona ulwembu lwesicabucabu.

ekubhaleni isiqephu B nesiqephu C.
ƒ Khumbula ukwehlukanisa kahle phakathi kombhalo ongamalungiselelo kanye nombhalo osulungele ukumakwa ukuze
lowo ozomaka i-eseyi yakho angazitholi esemaka umbhalo ongamalungiselelo.
Ungagudluki enanini lamagama anqunyelwe uhlobo lombhalo, ungaphumi esihlokweni, sebenzisa
imicabango/imibono okungeyakho.

Manje sebenzisa/landela uhlelo ozenzele lona ukubhala indaba


yakho. Khohlwa ngayo yonke into nangabantu abaseduze kwakho
– zitike ngokubhala, bhala, ubhale ngoba nguwena kuphela
ongabumba wedlulise umyalezo osemcabangweni wakho.

3.1.1 Izinhlobo zama-eseyi
Khumbula ukuthi uhlobo nohlobo lwe-eseyi lwehlukile kwezinye izinhlobo, i-eseyi ngayinye inezimpawu ebonakala/egqame
ngazo (kunezinto ezenza i-eseyi yehluke kwamanye njengoba kuchaziwe ngezansi).

I-eseyi elandisayo imayelana nomuntu nokuthi kwenzekeni kuye/kubo/kimi/kithi. Khumbula amaphuzu alandelayo:
ƒ Imvamisa lolu hlobo lwe-eseyi lubhalwa kusetshenziswa inkathi edlule.
ƒ Izinga le-eseyi liyaphakama uma indaba imnandi futhi iheha bese igcina ngesiphetho esimangalisayo noma esingalindelekile.
ƒ Ukunonga i-eseyi ngamahlaya anembayo futhi ahambisana nesihloko kuyenza ihehe.
ƒ Uma indaba imnandi (kusetshenziswe nolimi ngendlela efanele) izinga le-eseyi liyenyuka.
ƒ Ukuchaza kungaba khona yini ku-eseyi elandisayo? Yebo! Okubalulekile embhalweni wakho ukuba i-eseyi izwakale kuyinto engenzeka
ngempela kubuye kumenze oyifundayo ayikholwe le nto oyishoyo.

Ku-eseyi echazayo kumele uchaze, umuntu, indawo, isimo, ulwazi, umuzwa noma into. Qaphela lokhu okulandelayo mayelana
nalolu hlobo lwe-eseyi:
ƒ Ukuqaphelisisa kubamba iqhaza elibalulekile. Akukhathalekile ukuthi uchaza imizwa yakho, imvelo, umuntu/abantu noma
yini oyichazayo, indlela okubeka ngayo ngamazwi okushoyo ibaluleke kakhulu.
ƒ Ukusetshenziswa kwezinzwa kuyaliphakamisa izinga le-eseyi yakho. Ngakho-ke zama ukuzisebenzisa ngobuningi bazo
lapho uchaza.
ƒ Gwema ukusebenzisa ulimi oluhlotshiswe kwaze kweqa sengathi uzama ukubukisa – lokho akuyenzi indaba yakho ikholakale.
Ungamane ubhale imisho esobala kodwa edlulisa umyalezo ngokucacile.
ƒ Ubufakazi beqiniso nokwethembeka (kombhali) kuyalenyusa izinga le-eseyi echazayo.
ƒ Ukuqaphela okuyikho nokupheleleyo kuyalikhuphula izinga le-eseyi.
