INTRODUCTION
“Everyone agrees that learning math can be difficult, but some people believe
math is important and some people believe math is not important”. -by Ada Bianco.
However, learning math has a lot of advantages for us, because it develops our skills
and confidence. This study will investigate the factors that contribute to the lower
mathematical performance of student in this subject, such as a lack of interest limited
exposure to mathematical concepts, and the perception that math is irrelevant to their
future career paths. By understanding these challenges, we can develop tailored
interventions and recommendations to improve their mathematical proficiency and study
habits.
The research will utilize quantitative methods to gather data. Surveys will be
administered to Grade 11 students to assess their current math proficiency level, study
habits, and attitudes towards mathematics. Additionally, interviews and focus group
discussions will be conducted with students, teachers, and academic advisors to gain
deeper insights into the underlying factors affecting mathematical performance.
The findings of this research will have practical implications for education
curriculum designers and policy makers. By identifying effective strategies to enhance
mathematical skills and study habits, we can provide targeted support to Grade 11
Humanities and Social Science, helping them develop the necessary mathematical
competencies for their future academic and professional endeavors.
According to Ramos et. al (2015), The majority of high school pupils detest
mathematics, because they do not want to solve, interpret, and evaluate numbers. The
student ability to think critically and act intelligently is enhanced by their ability to solve
and interpret various kinds of word problems. More mathematical skills and strategies
will be required as he tackles various mathematics subjects in high school, such as
algebra, geometry, and statistics, particularly when these subjects are combined with
other disciplines. To use abstractions to perceive relationships, see structure, reason
out things, argue and articulate the truth or falsity of statements, and (iv) to use
mathematics to communicate, collaborate, discuss, and work together on. The values of
economics, concentration, and the power of reason should all be cultivated through the
teaching of mathematics. This study was carried out to ascertain the proficiency level of
the students in Mathematics specifically in business. (Manjunath, 2010). Expression,
self-reliance, Attitude of discovery, and above all the quality of hard effort and all these
qualities are needed for human beings to survive in the world. The school, especially
the math teachers, will provide activities to enhance and expand student mathematical
knowledge after the level of mathematical competency of the kids has been identified.
According to Arhin, Ato, and Offoe (2015), There have been a number of
modifications made to math instruction over time. Mathematical educators are
increasingly arguing for reforms that will enable students to form the habit of solving
problems, as well as the capacity to use mathematics in real-world contexts. The
emphasis on mathematics exploration, discovery, and complex problem solving has
expanded as a result of recent reform measures. According to another explanation of
the phenomena, this trend supports the creation of an educational atmosphere that
places a larger focus on problem solving, sense making, and communication.
The problem of this research is a math proficiency level in solving math problems
of Grade 11 Humanities and Social Science at Caroyroyan Genesis colleges Inc. This
study aims in improving student mathematical skills, Specially, it aims to answer the
following questions.
a.) Name
b.) Age
c.) Sex
2.) What is the math proficiency level of Grade 11 Humanities and Social Science
students at Caroyroyan Genesis Colleges Inc?
3.) Is there a significant relationship between the study habits and achievements of the
students?
The general objective of the present study is to determine the math proficiency level for
enhancement of mathematical skills and study habits of Grade 11 Humanities and
Social Science students at Caroyoryan Genesis Colleges Inc. Specific objective
Specially, it aims to:
1. Determine the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of Name, Age, Sex
2. Assess the math proficiency level of Grade 11 Humanities and Social Science at
Caroyroyan Genesis Colleges Inc.
3. Know if there a significant relationship between the study habits and achievements of
the students.
Students. The results will provide the students with some knowledge about math
subject. To enhance the skill of Grade 11 Humanities and Social Science in problem
solving.
Teachers. The findings of this study, will help teachers determine their students learning
rates. The data will also help teachers better understand children who have trouble
comprehending, recalling math facts, formulas and procedures
Parents. The results would provide basis on how they encourage and how they avoid
difficulties of their children in learning mathematics.
Researchers. The findings will serve as a springboard for future research on the
challenges of learning mathematics, and they will also provide information on the factors
that pupils experience when learning math.
