Forum For ARTS and CRAFTS of TELANGANA
Cultural references have become increasingly hazy in today’s era of widespread uniformity,
globalisation, and mass production. People’s yearning to go back to their roots is now grow-
ing. They seek to research the skills and principles found in traditional businesses and fine arts
and crafts. Indian arts, crafts, and design have a history that is as old as the country itself. With
a 5000-year-old intangible cultural and spiritual tradition, South India is a nation blessed with
artistic talent. In order to demonstrate its talent, it needs modern teaching and learning facil-
ities. Keeping art alive via practice is one approach to protecting it. 12 of the 15 Geographical
Indicator (GI) tags granted to Telangana are associated with its art and craft, highlighting
the significance of the arts in the region. Telangana has a vibrant tradition of arts and crafts.
This thesis attempted to explore the arts and crafts community of Telangana focusing
on Pochampally weaving, Bidri craft, Nirmal Painting & toys. In the process, I have ex-
plored the spatial relationship associated with the art/craft and their connection to the
built environment, User experience, etc. by studying a few prominent arts and crafts cen-
tres in India. In the purview of studies, a forum has been designed with workshops, ex-
hibitions, Learning and interaction spaces for both artisans and the public to showcase
their skills and share their cultural heritage with a wider audience. OAT and Auditori-
um have provided where community-driven projects, events, and educational programs
for individuals of all ages and backgrounds to actively participate in the artistic process.
The Deccan architectural style is used in an effort to give the design a native character.

Keywords: Arts forum, creativity, cultural engagement, community enrichment, exhibi-

tions, performances, workshops, educational initiatives, artistic expression.

“Speaking Corridors.” It refers to the idea of designing corridors in a way that encourages communication and in-
teraction between people. The goal is to create a space that encourages people to engage with each oth-
er and build a sense of community. A transitional zone between two different types of spaces. This zone
can help to create a sense of separation between the two spaces and provide a visual or physical barrier.

The city of Hyderabad was founded by the Qutb Shahi sultan Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah in 1591
CE. It was built around the Charminar, which formed the centerpiece of the city. Hyderabad became
an important trading centre for diamonds and pearls, and a centre for culture. After a brief period of
Mughal rule, the first Nizam of Hyderabad conquered the city in 1724. The Nizams later signed a sub-
sidiary alliance with the British, and their territory became Hyderabad State, the largest princely state
in British India with the city of Hyderabad as its capital. During this period, industry, railways, modern
education, and airways developed in Hyderabad.

The vendors have been observed and classified according to
the things they sell.
This helps us to understand the context of the area better
and also gives an idea of the consumer age group of that

3D videws/Renders Proposed design was a double bedroom housing for families and a single bedroom housing for bachelors.
What if there is no communtiy space to gather?
Providing a community space as a central courtyard for the housing helps workers to interact with each
other and as well as a play area for children and also acts as a buffer space for the housing. As dust and
smoke is the major problem for the workers, taking softscape as an design element to obstruct the smoke
and the dustProviding fruit bearing trees in the central courtyard as it helps in improving their health con-
ditions.

Connecting through these elements[Concept/zoning of the site]
Hospital is a place which co-ordinates and controls many departments just as the
brain in a human body, which deals with the control and organization of the human
body.
• College is a place where the students are pumped in with knowledge and enthusi-
asm just as heart.
• The hospital requires a supporting staff like nurses doctors and to react and re-
spond in a proper manner [the CNS transports the message from brain to the body
which results in actions of the body to a particular stimuli]
• Providing a light and ventillation to the interior through atrium.

Life with Heat in the Off Grid City -IIT Hyderabad

In 2022, the Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad, with the support of Swastik
Harish and Associates and the Hyderabad Urban Labs conducted a series of studies
around heat in informal settlements in the city of Hyderabad, India. Moving away
from the simpler notions of heat waves, extreme heat events and policy responses
such as Heat Action Plans, the research aimed to find out how exactly heat is experi-

Compressed Stabilized Earth Blocks[CSEB]

Compressed stabilized earth blocks (CSEB) are

manufactured from local soil mixed/ stabilised
with small amount of cement (upto 5%), sand
and water.
Being produced from local soil, it offers a sus-
tainable alternate to burnt clay bricks/cement
concrete blocks. These blocks are compressed in
a Press (manual or motorised)
and cured.
The top soil being fertile is removed and deep-
er soils are extracted as main raw material for
production of these blocks. Depending upon the
characteristic of local soil, a design mix compris-
ing of local soil, cement, sand and water is pre-
pared and is cast in moulds through a press to
