This chapter “The Bath” of the “Blonde” novel by Joyce Carol Oates has three themes that are
familiar with feminist philosophers:
1. Familial relational theory
2. The theory on the nature of self based on the concrete physical facts
3. The theory on the nature of self based on the concrete social facts
The familial theory was expressed through the relationship of Norma Jeane with her mother
Gladys.
The theory on the nature of self based on the concrete physical facts was about Norma Jeane. It
was expressed through her biological relationship with her Grandma Della and Mother Gladys.
The theory on the nature of self based on the social facts was manifested in the birthday
celebration of Norma Jeane.
