The Powerful Typewriter

Subjugated by a typewriter?

Sira was in denial. She would not accept her responsibility for the sudden and drastic change in
her life — from a novice seamstress who was to be married to an investor who eloped with a
lover. In her mind, she deliberately excused herself from those events in her life by consciously
placing all the blame on a Hispano-Olivetti typewriter.

Quoting her,
~~~***~~~
A typewriter shattered my destiny.
~~~***~~~

In her own words, she gave life to a typewriter as if it had the mind to strategize the
circumstances and the limbs to move in time and space, performing the acrobatics that changed
the course of her life. Her denial and refusal of her involvement in those events blinded her of
the inanimate capacity of a typewriter, which in turn inhibited her to reflect her thoughts,
decision and actions that led her to defy her mother, cancel her marriage and elope with a man
she barely knew.

However, Sira’s sentiments were not unique for anyone who had fallen in the trap of infatuating
and intoxicating affection. The force of attraction confounded with lust can truly change one’s
plans and divert one’s course of life in a short span of time. And Sira being in a tender age was
not immune from such force.

Sira can blame the typewriter, but I blame her age.
