r In
Torque converter and front brake cooling oil cooler (2) is located behind the
c.
engine and above the torque converter. Engine coolant from the aftercooler water
pump flows through the torque converter and front brake cooling oil cooler. Then,
the engine coolant flows back to the cylinder block.

The front brakes are cooled by oil. The cooling oil comes from the torque
converter outlet relief valve. When the parking brakes are applied or when the
secondary brakes are applied, the parking and secondary brake valve also
provides cooling oil.

The oil flows from the torque converter outlet relief valve to the torque converter
and front brake cooling screen. The oil then flows from the screen to the torque
converter and front brake cooling diverter valve (1). A small amount of oil from the
torque converter outlet relief valve will flow in order to lubricate the pump drive.

When the service brakes are applied or when the retarder is used, the torque
converter and front brake cooling diverter valve (1) will send the oil through torque
converter and front brake cooling oil cooler (2). When the front brakes are not
needed, torque converter and front brake cooling diverter valve (1) will send the
oil through the oil cooler bypass. In either situation, the oil will then flow to the
front brakes. After the oil flows to the front brakes, the oil will return to the
:
hydraulic oil tank.
