The State branch of the People's Union for Civil Liberties, Rajasthan, acknowledges the valuable
contribution of Arpit Upadhyay, a 1st Year student of B. Com. LLB, Guru Ghasidas Vishavavidayalay,
Bilashpur during his internship with us from 1st June 2023 to 30th June 2023.

His work at the PUCL entailed visiting Police stations and Courts, helping organize public meetings,
newspaper documentation, along with assisting the patients at the recovery shelter, lectures, discussions,
surveys, fact finding, film screenings and human rights training, apart from is daily engagements at the
PUCL like report making, data management, and poster making for various events.
The various sessions that he was a part of dealt with multiple themes like: Rights of the marginalised
including women, children, LGBTQIA+, Dalits, minorities, workers, DNTs, the Homeless and others;
Sexual Harassment at Workplace, Gender and Society, on Patriarchy; Indian Constitution; State and
Religion; Indian Education System; Media in contemporary India, Gig worker Economy; the DNT
policy; Gandhian ideology; to name a few. These sessions were taken by several eminent persons
including Naveen Narayan, Nesar Ahmed, Bhanwar Meghwanshi, Rakshita, Renuka Pamecha, Pragnya
Joshi, Suman, Pushpa, Mamta Nair, Akhil Chaudhary, Parul Kulshreshtha, Apoorvanand, Akash, Dr.
Meeta Singh, Lad Kumari Jain, Dr. Narendra and Prem Krishan Sharma among others.
Arpit played an active role in the daily Street Medicine programme for the Homeless and visited the
Recovery shelters for the Homeless people run by the Centre for Equity Studies. The students had in-
depth discussions on the ‘Mehengai Rahat’ camps in Jaipur. The students also went to SMS stadium to
interview gig workers to better understand the dynamics of gig worker economy and the challenges
faced by them, with special reference to sexual harassment at workplace. They attended a two- day
National Consultation on policies of DNTs organised at the Institution of Development Studies. They
also visited several bastis and indulged in extensive surveys of the Denotified Tribes (DNTs) such as the
Nats, Bhatt, Jogi and Bagri.

Collectively they visited various courts of Jaipur city, including the District and Sessions Court, the
Rajasthan High Court, Jaipur Bench, the Family court, the District and State Legal Services Authority,
and the Alternative Dispute Redressal Centre in the Rajasthan High Court, and the Consumer courts.
They also visited the various mechanisms related to the protection of women and children: Mahila
thana, Mahila Salah Evam Suraksha Kendra, Rajasthan University Women’s Association, Indira Mahila
Shakti Kendra, the Child Welfare Committee, Women’s Empowerment Directorate, the child crisis
management centre, and Aparajita centers. They also visited the Nai Bhor organisation and had in depth
discussions on challenges faced by the Transgender community as well their rights.

Arpit was an active and sincere student. We wish him success.
