This Safe Operating Procedure must be reviewed any time the task, equipment, or materials change and at minimum every three years or
when there was an accident.

DO NOT perform this procedure until you have been appropriately trained and
authorized to do so by your supervisor.

NEVER TAKE PART IN OR ALLOW ANY HORSEPLAY

Required Personal Protective Equipment

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:

➢ Always wear prescribed PPE


➢ Check electrical cord for damages
➢ Read operating manual

PRECAUTIONS:

➢ Ensure that the saw is properly secured to a worktable at approximately hip


height, by bolts/clamps.
➢ Ensure that the saw is operated on a protected circuit.
➢ Check workspaces and walkways to ensure that no slip/trip hazards are present.
➢ Ensure that all guards are in place, in working condition, and in proper adjustment
and alignment.
➢ Ensure that the depth stop is properly adjusted.
➢ Ensure that you are familiar with the operation of the ON/OFF starter switch.
➢ Keep table and work area clear of all tools and off-cut material.
➢ Do not use faulty equipment under any circumstances. Immediately report suspect
equipment.

OPERATIONAL SAFETY:

➢ Ensure base plate/foot of the saw is correctly positioned & secured.


➢ Do not support your material by hand. Secure to a bench or supports. Use two
hands to operate the saw.
➢ Do not start the saw with blade touching the material. Allow the saw to reach full
speed before starting to cut.
➢ Do not have any part of your body in line with the path of the saw blade.
➢ Keep hands & power leads away from underneath the work. Do not attempt to
remove cut material while the blade is turning.
➢ Keep blade path straight during cut to prevent ‘kickback’ . …. avoid twisting.
➢ Use a fence or guide where possible when making long rip or cross cuts.
➢ When cutting larger sheets ensure material is well supported to prevent binding on
the blade & ‘kickback’ of the saw.
➢ If task requires the cut to be stopped within the material, release the switch, hold
the saw securely & wait for the blade to stop before removing.
➢ Before making any adjustments to the saw, bring the machine to a complete
standstill, & then disconnect the AC plug from the power source

OHS Act: General Safety Regulation 2 - Personal Protective Equipment:

GSR 2(2) Where it is not practicable to safeguard the condition or situation


contemplated in subregulation (1), the employer or user of machinery as the
case may be, shall take steps to reduce the risk as much as is practicable, and
shall provide free of charge and maintain in a good and clean condition such
safety equipment and facilities as may be necessary to ensure that any
person exposed to any such condition or situation at a workplace or in the
course of his employment or on premises where machinery is used is
rendered safe.

Replacement of PPE:

Personal Protective Equipment shall be replaced when the PPE is not


working effectively, has been damaged and needs to be replaced.

Employees shall bring old Personal Protective Equipment as proof that they
need replacement for new personal protective equipment.

Section 15 - OHS Act - Duty not to interfere with, damage or misuse things:
No person shall intentionally or recklessly interfere with, damage or misuse
anything which is provided in the interest of health and safety.

HOUSEKEEPING:
● Keep tools and equipment within the proper storage place provided.
● Ensure to keep every item in its proper storage place provided.
