Scope : 4 ‘This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies general rules of electroplating, hereinafter referred to as “plating”, metal base for automobile parts, hereinafter referred to as “parts”, mainly for the purpose of corrosion prevention, rust prevention, and ornamentation, except for the purpose of wear resistance. 2. Definitions For the purpose of this standard the definitions given in JIS 1.0400 apply, together with the following definitions. (1) vehicle interior Place of usage of part installed within the automobile and not + exposed directly or indirectly to the weather. Where indirectly exposed to the weather, the place shatl be deemed vehicle exterior. : {2} vehicle exterior Place of usage of part installed outside of automobile body and exposed directly or indirectly to the weather,-except even when within vehicle interior, if partially exposed to the weather, the place shall be deemed vehicle ex terior. (3) interior ~The portion of object made by combination oF collection of two or more parts that cannot be directly viewed 14) exterior The portion of single part or object made by:combination or collection i ‘s ; of two or more parts that can be viewed directly or depending on usage state. {5) significant area Important surface from sonication yandpoine and shall be ° either ofthe following cases: (a) Surface that can be seen from normal direction when in usage state. (b) Surface subject easily to wear or damage. : (©) Surface subject to change in performance by formation of cortosion or rust. ‘ (@) Surface ordinarily touched by hand. (6) glossiness The glossiness shall be classified by specular glossiness measured by Method 2 of JIS Z 8741, as follows: ‘i (@) Gloss: 80% and Bver, 7 (b)_ Semigloss: 20% and over to 80% excl, (©) Plat: Under 20% Koplicable Standards: See pase 27. 2 Do2011976 (7) roughness ‘The roughness shall be classified by surface unevenness degree as fol- lows: : (a) Smooth surface: Smooth and free from unevenness condition (&) Semismoath surface: Small amount of unevenness condition ot (Rough surface: Large amount of unevenness condition. {8) Dazzling Prevention Treatment Treatment applicable to specially designated parts for the purpose of preventing dazzling. Plating symbol number indicates the plating minimum total thickness, however, for chrome-plated parts, chromium thickness is not included In this case, chromium plating thickness shall be 0.15 gm or greater. Those enclosed by parentheses should, preferably, not be used unless specially required. 2. Minimum total thickness of MFNi, MFCr, MZNi, MACr, and MZCr platings shall be Cu # Ni, but total thickness may be made Ni 3. Oh the plating symbol suffix d and t, d signifies double plating and t tiiple plating 4. On zine plating and cadmium plating, chromate treatment shall be made, asa rule, and on the plating symbol, K shall be suffixed for black treat- ment, B for gloss chromate treatment (neutralized after treatment), and C for coloured chromate treatment (not neutralized). B shall, as arule, be used where conditions for use are B or, However, it is recommended that use of black treatment be avoided on parts constantly touched by hand. 5. In the case where the plated surface is to be painted, or bent or caulked after plating, the thickness of the plating shall be made as agreed be- tween the parties concerned. : 6. MFCr30, MZCr25, and the double and triple plating may be substituted by micco-cracked chromium piating or micro-porous chromiuin plating. In such case, plating thickness shall be in accordance with agreement between the parties concerned. 7. On heat-treated steel parts such as spring parts and bolts, as a.rule, after MFCr, MFZn and MFCd plating, hydrogen embrittlement removal treat- ment shall be performed, and chromate treatment shail be carried out afler hydrogen embrittlement removal treatm 6 0201-1978 f 7. Test Methods 4 7.1 Appearance Test Method On a black background and using standard light C con- forming to JIS Z 8701, about 300 Ix or stronger illuminance shall be applied uniformly on the effective surface, and from a distance of about 50 cm, examination shall be carried out with naked eye under natural stance for base metal exposure, blister, peeling, pinholes, pits, rough deposit, stain spots, specks, burnt deposit, cloudy surface, bath wrinkles, unevenness, srinding marks, deformation by grinding, base metal flaws, punching flaws, scratches, colour unevenness, and glossiness. However, on the grinding marks, flaws, colour unevenness, and + slossiness, as occasion demands, comparison may be made with limit sumple at about 25 em distance depending upon agreement between the parties concerned. 7.2 Test Method for Dazzling Prevention On the surface executed with dazzling prevention treatment the reflectance shall be checked by testing in accordance with JIS Z 8741 Method 2 optical conditions. 7.3 Corrosion Resistance Test Method Salt spray test conforming to JIS Z 2371, corrodkote test, oF CASS test shall be performed for the time prescribed in Table § and the formation of corresion or rust on effective surface shalt be examined. The method for corrodkote shall be in accordance with Appendix 1, and the method for CASS test, with Appendix 2, Pating symbol 7 tote 1D 0201-1976 Unit: ‘Type of test Salt speay test Corrodkote test CASS test MENIIO m4 = = MFCr 10 4 7 [ MFCr 20 NEC 30 MECr 25-4 ( MFCr 204 | NFCr 40 NFCr30< MFCr 35-1 - 16x 2eyeles 2 MFZn 5 as) | 72¢) = ~ | MEZa8 6) | 7209_| 5 = MFZa 13, 44) NECA S 40) | nC) | = = ‘MECE 8 96) [| 720°) a MCA 13 mQ | 2c) a = MZCe 15 a4 a = MZCr 20 NZCr 25 ZC 5-4 “Cy NZCr 2041 NZCe40 NZCr30-4 MZCe 25-1 - 16x Deyeles n MACE 20 Remarks 1. 48 Application of test type shall be in accordance With agreement between the parties concerned. Only the white prod- uct shall be checked in colour chromate and the red rust in black treat- ment. The () hours indicates the time for performing test on gloss chromate treated product where investigation is made for red rust. As the occasion demands, test piece taken from significant surface may be utilized for the test. The shape, dimensions, and the number of the test pieces in such case shall be in accordance with agreement between the parties concerned. ’ 7.4 Thickness Test Method The minimum value at the significant surface shall be checked with microscope of other thickness meter.
