2. Review

Class, what was our topic last

meeting?

Ma’am our topic last meeting

was all about converting Time to
Very Good! minutes and vice versa.
How many minutes are there in 1
hour ?

How many minutes are there in 3 60 minutes

hours?

In 120 minutes, How many 180 minutes

hours?

2 hours
Very Good!

3. Motivation

Class, I have here a picture. Tell

something about the picture.

Two boys are playing tennis.

Where do you think the two boys

are playing? Outdoor or
indoor?

What time do you think these

two boys playing? They play outdoor.

Do you also play?

They play in the morning.

Yes, Ma’am
What is your favorite sports?

favorite sports?

How often do you play sports? I love playing with my friends.

Is sports good in our health? Why? Seldom

Yes, because in playing it makes

feeling positive and motivated during a
loss?

By telling them it’s okay at least

we try our best. Let’s have more
practice

4. Presentation

Children, please read the story

problem on the TV/ chart.

(Pupils will read the story on

the TV/ chart)

Who played tennis?

What time did they start Rico and his friend.

playing?

At what time did they end They started playing at 8:10

playing? a.m.

They finish playing at 8:55 a.m.

What was being ask in the
story problem?

How long did Rico and his

In solving the problem we can solve it friend play tennis?
by using number line like this:

45 minutes
8:00
8:10
8:55 9:00
Started Finished

You notice that from 8:10 to 8:55 is 45

minutes.

You can also solve the answer by

counting by 5 from 8:10 t0 8:55.

And you can also subtract to find the

answer.

8:55 - Time Ended Playing

- 8:10 - Time Started Playing
0:45 minutes

So, if Rico and his friend played tennis

for 45 minutes, then this time interval
is what we called Elapsed Time. Elapsed
time is the length of time or event
happened from the start to the end.

D- Developmental Activity

1. Activity
Children, I will group you into three.

Please count off 1-3.

a task. (All number 1 will be group 1, all
number 2 will be group 2 and all
number 3 will be group 3).

Because it’s athletic time, I will name

your group with the name of popular
ball game.

(Softball Team)

How will you find the activity? We find the answer by using
number line.
How will you able to find the
answer?

Very Good! Let”s give magaling clap

to Softball Team. We find it easy Ma’am!

The length of time when an event

happened is called Elapsed Time. Time We find the answer by counting the
spent from the start to the end. minutes from the time started to
the time the event ended.
To find the elapsed time, you can do
the following, you can do the following.

1. By using number line

2. By counting the minutes from

the time the event started to We find it easy Ma’am!
the time the event ended.

3. By subtracting the time when We find the answer by calculating

the event started from the or subtracting.
event ended

Read the problem below and figure out

how can you find time in minutes by
using number line, counting and
subtracting.

What is asked in the problem?

What are given in the problem?

What operation will you use?

What is the number sentence?

How are the solution done?

Method 1: Using Number Line

53

How long did Gianna and her

5:30 5:35 5:40 5:45 5:50 5:55 6:00 6:05 6:10 6:15 6:20 6:25 brother spent in making the
project?

5:32 Time started

6:25 Time Finished

You noticed that from 5:32 p.m. to 6:25 Subtraction

pm, the time elapsed is 53 minutes.

Method 2: Subtraction 6:25 – 5:32 = N

5:60 + 25
6:25 5:85 6:25 – 5:32 = 0:53 minutes
- 5:32 5:32

They made the project for 53 minutes.

Subtract the time in minutes.

(25-32) We cannot subtract the times
because 25 is smaller than 32, so we
will regroup by borrowing 1 hour from
6. (6-1=5)
Rename 1 hour as 60 minutes
Add 60 and 25 minutes. (60 + 25 =
85)
Subtract again the time in minutes
and then the hours.
Now, is it clear to you class?

3.Abstraction

What is elapsed time?

How can you find elapsed time?
