Yammer Quick Start Guide

What is Yammer?
Yammer is InterHighs private social network, an online tool for communication and
collaboration. It is here to help you socialise and collaborate and to support teamwork and
information sharing across our school.

Why Yammer?

▪ Share your thoughts freely?
▪ Meet similar minded friends?

What’s more, using our Yammer network may help us build a body of knowledge and
information that other members of the community may find useful .

You can use Yammer in many ways, see some examples below-

▪ Meet fellow students who share your interests


▪ Make friends with students from all over the world
▪ Learn of the lives of others in the InterHigh family
▪ Share good news with the school or some friends
▪ Gather opinions and ideas from across our school
▪ Find help you need to complete a task
▪ Provide peer-to-peer support
▪ Share and help others
▪ Communicate in real time and have fun

Joining Yammer-

▪ Enrol on the Learning Platform training course and learn about social networks
▪ Complete the Social Networking Quiz
▪ Arrange for your parents to complete the agreement for you to join Yammer
▪ Visit the Yammer portal, read the User Policy.

Set up your account so you can start using Yammer to communicate, collaborate and share
information.
Complete your profile-

Your Yammer Profile helps your peers learn more about you, while helping them put a face
to a name. Here’s how to set it up:

1. In the top right corner of your screen, click on the icon of the three dots.
2. Select Edit Profile.
3. Upload a photo of yourself or something to represent yourself. Be careful to make a
wise choice – this is your first post!
4. Add your title, Home Network (InterHigh), and the other information requested. You
are free to leave this information blank if you prefer
5. Click Save.

Manage your email notifications-

Yammer can send you a daily email summarising the conversations on our network. You can
decide to change how often you get these summaries. Here’s how to manage your email
settings:

1. In the top right corner of your screen, click on the icon of the three dots.
2. Select Edit Profile. Then, click Notifications from the menu on the left.
3. Check the boxes to select when to receive email notifications and which notifications
to receive.
4. Click Save.

Make Yammer your own-

To customise your Yammer experience, join groups and follow friends. Review your main
feed to find posts that are relevant to you.

Join Groups-

1. Click on Groups in the left navigation bar.


2. Click + Join to join a group.
3. If membership approval is required, request admission.
4. If you wish to setup a group contact the IT help who can make them for you.
5. You can also join and access groups from your main feed.

Follow Friends-

1. Under the icon with three dots in the top navigation bar, click People.
2. Click + Follow to follow a peer
3. You can also join and access groups from your main feed. You can also follow users by
clicking Follow under their thumbnail headshot.
