GERUNDS AND INFINITIVES

1. Các động từ phải có gerund (V-ing) theo sau

 avoid (tránh) + V-ing  recommend (suggest sth as a good idea)
 admit (thừa nhận)  regret (tiếc, hối tiếc)
 advise (khuyên nhủ)  resent (be annoyed at )
 appreciate (value sb/sth highly)  resist (fight agaist sb or sth)
 complete (hoàn thành)  risk (liều, chịu rủi ro)
 consider (xem xét)  suggest (đề nghị)
 delay (postpone)  tolerate (permit; endure sth)
 deny (từ chối)  understand (hiểu)
 discuss (thảo luận)  can’t help (ko thể tránh/nhịn được)
 dislike (không thích)  can’t stand (ko thể chịu đựng được)
 enjoy (thích)  can’t bear (hate, dislike )
 finish (hoàn thành)  It is no use / It is no good (vô ích)
 keep (tiếp tục)  Would you mind (có phiền … ko)
 mention (đề cập)  to be used to (quen với)
 mind (phiền , ngại)  to be/get accustomed to (quen dần với)
 miss (nhớ, bỏ lỡ)  to be busy (bận rộn)
 postpone (delay)  to be worth (xứng đáng)
 practice (luyện tập)  to look forward to (trông mong)
 quit (stop, thôi)  to have difficulty/fun/trouble
 recall (gợi lại, nhớ lại)  to have a difficult time
 recollect (nhớ ra )  To go + V-ING
Ex: We should avoid playing with him
2. Các động từ phải có to - Infinitive theo sau
 afford (đủ khả năng) + to - Inf  mean (ý định)
 agree (đồng ý)  need (cần)
 appear (xuất hiện)  offer (đề nghị)
 arrange (sắp xếp)  persuade (thuyết phục)
 ask (hỏi , yêu cầu)  plan (lên kế hoạch)
 beg (nài nỉ, van xin)  prepare (chuẩn bị)
 care (chăm sóc)  pretend (giả vờ)
 claim (đòi hỏi, yêu cầu)  promise (hứa )
 consent (bằng lòng)  refuse (từ chối)
 decide (quyết định)  seem (dường như)
 demand (yêu cầu)  struggle (đấu tranh)
 deserve (xứng đáng)  swear (xin thề)
 expect (mong đợi)  threaten (đe doạ)

3. Các động từ + Object + To infinitive

 advise (khuyên) + O + To - Verb  instruct (hướng dẫn)

 allow (cho phép)  invite (mời)
 ask (yêu cầu)  need (cần)
 beg (van xin)  order (ra lệnh)
 cause (gây ra)  permit (cho phép)
 challenge (thách thức)  persuade (thuyết phục)
 convince (thuyết phục)  remind (nhắc nhở)
 dare (dám )  require (cần đến; yêu cầu)
 encourage (khuyến khích)  teach (dạy)
 expect (mong đợi )  tell (bảo)
 forbid (cấm )  urge (thúc giục)
 force (buộc )  want (muốn)
 hire (thuê )  warn (báo trước)

Ex: She allowed me to use her car

* Một số động từ chỉ tri giác theo sau l à động từ nguyên mẫu hoặc V-ing (nếu đang xảy ra )

* Các nhóm từ hoặc động từ theo sau là động từ nguyên mẫu:
- nothing but (không gì … nhưng chỉ)
- would rather (thích … hơn)
Ex: We would rather work than play
- cannot but (không còn cách nào hơn là)
- Had better (nên …..thì hơn)
Ex : You had better work
- Let/help/make/have + S + O + V (bare infinitive)
Ex : - My father let me drive his car
- He helped me wash my car
- I made my brother carry my suitcase.
- I got my brother to carry my suitcase.
- I had my brother carry my suitcase.
- I had my suitcase carried by my brother.
