ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN 1

A residential building is a structure that serves as a place of residence. Offering various


areas for living, sleeping, cooking, and other daily activities. It can include a different type of
housing, such as family dwellings, lodging, hostels, dormitories, apartments, flats, and
private garages. The primary purpose is to provide sleeping accommodations for
conventional residential purposes, with or without kitchen or dining facilities.

RESIDENTIAL BUILDING AREAS/ROOMS:

LIVING ROOM

A living room is a common area in a


residential building where people
relax, socialize and doing leisure
activities. A typical living room may
contain furnishing such as a sofa,
chairs, rugs or other furniture.

DINING ROOM

The dining room is the place where


people have their meals. It is typically
furnished with a dining table and
chairs providing a space for individuals
or families to enjoy their food.

KITCHEN

A kitchen is a room used for cooking


and food preparation. The main
function of a kitchen is cooking or
preparing food but it may also be used
for dining, food storage, entertaining,
dishwashing.

A common bedroom generally is a


second or third bedroom that is not the
master bedroom in a house.

BATHROOM

A bathroom is a room in the home


used for personal hygiene activities
and generally contains a toilet, a sink
(basin) and either a bathtub, a shower
or both.
A floorplan is like a map of a building. It shows the layout and
arrangement of rooms, walls, doors, and windows. It helps you
understand the different spaces in a building. Its like a blueprint that
guides the construction and design of a building.
