Subject: Science Grade: One (1)

Topic: Grammar Students: 10 Boys; 8 Girls
Time: 11:00 – 11:30

Specific Objectives
Students will:
1. State the use of heat, light, and electricity in our daily lives.
2. List some uses of the sun in everyday activities.
3. Identify different sources of energy that enable objects to move.

Materials: Plain paper, Notebook, Modern Science and Technology Student Book & Workbook,
Whiteboard, Dry Erase Marker.

Content: Energy is the ability to make things work or move.

The forms of energy are: Heat, Light, Water, Sound

Strategies & Skills: Tapping into prior knowledge, Listening, Speaking, Reading

Previous Knowledge: Students should have some knowledge of the uses of electricity.

Introduction

The teacher will begin by asking students what do they think some uses of the sun are. The
teacher will listen to the examples, and then state the following:
 To dry our clothes
 To grow our plants and food
 To heat water
 To provide electricity through solar panels

Development

Step 1
The teacher will reinforce the definition of energy, ‘The ability to do work or to move’.
Students will learn about the different types of energy: heat energy, water energy, light energy,

Students will be asked to think about how these forms of energy work or give things the ability
to move. Then explain that the following types of energy allow things to work or move using
examples.
Wind energy can push a sailboat, or move a kite.
Water energy can move a mill. A video will be shown to demonstrate.
Heat energy can provide food, by cooking food.
Light energy also provides food since the plants need the sunlight to grow
Step 2
How do we use energy?
People use energy for a variety of things, such as to walk and ride a bicycle, move cars along
roads and boats through water, cook food on stoves, make ice in freezers, light our homes and
offices, manufacture products, and send astronauts into space. There are many forms of energy:
Heat. Light for our homes or schools.

Step 3
The teacher will let students know that the sun is an important source of energy for all life forms
on Earth. Humans need Vitamin D from the sun's rays, plants use sunlight for photosynthesis,
and the sun is the only source of light and warmth on our planet. It is also used to generate
electricity via solar power.

Closure
The teacher will summarize the lesson.
