Annex 2.4.

4 - Equipotential Connection on Cables

After the MV cables have been pulled into the tower bottom the cable shields,
armor or concentric earth wire in the cables, have to be earthed.
The equipotential connection of the shields, armor or concentric earth wire in the
MV cables entering the WTG must be performed inside the switchgear, as it is
located directly on the foundation basement.
The cable termination must include an earth connection lead that connects the
shielding of the MV to the earthing bonding bar or terminal that will be available
inside the cable compartment of the MV switchgear, where the MV circuits are
connected.

The MV switchgear is then earthed through the Main Earthing Bonding Bar
(MEBB) of the WTG.
The earthing connections of the cable shields give a not negligible contribution to
decrease the earthing resistance of the complete Earthing Electrode and
establish another path for the fault current in such a way to reduce the current
through the single wind turbine earthing electrode.

All LV cables entering the wind turbine (power supply for meteorology stations,
outside lightning, antennas, etc) must be entered via overvoltage arresters,
according to the power system in the cables planned to enter the turbine, placed
in termination boxes.
After entering the tower, via PVC tubes, all LV cables must be routed via
termination box and connected to the overvoltage arresters, according to the
installation manual. If the cable contains cable screens, armor or PE wires, these
must be connected to the grounding terminals in the box on both incoming and
outgoing cables.

All conventional copper signal, control or communication cables must enter the
turbine via overvoltage arresters placed in an equipotential box installed directly
on the main earth bonding bar.
Fibre optic cables with metallic cable screens or other metallic components will
also be connected directly to the main earth bonding bar directly at the point of
entrance.
Fibre optic cables without metallic components approved by Vestas are allowed
to enter the turbine without connection to the main earth bonding bar.
