My Pet Wants a Pet
Storytime Event!
Before reading My Pet Wants a Pet, use an icebreaker to help attendees get to know one
another. A fun warm-up question could be: Do you have a pet in your home? If they do
and time allows, ask what kind of pet they have. If they do not have a pet, ask what pet
they would want to have.
Hand a name tag to each participant and have them (or a parent/guardian) write the
child’s name in the space provided. Then they can fill in their pet’s name on the next line.
Read the fun and heartwarming story My Pet Wants a Pet, written by Elise Broach and
illustrated by Eric Barclay.
Provide crayons or other coloring materials for the children to draw on and color pages
4–6 of this booklet, and to complete the maze on page 7.
Once the children finish the activity pages, fill out a certificate for each child who com-
pleted the My Pet Wants a Pet Storytime Event!
