What does this look like?
What Do I use?
Questions to ask as you make an
assessment?
● Can students have repeated success with each standard?
○ 2-4 questions per standard

● Can the assessment be completed within a class period?

● Do the assessment questions have students show their understanding of the

targeted concepts?

● Is this essential to their understanding of the topic?

● Does this assessment accurately reflect and align with the work and learning we
have done in class?

Student A is a kind and active learner within our math community. Student A is hard-working, diligent, and growing in her math
skills. Throughout the trimester Student A has displayed a grade-level appropriate understanding of most of our topics. Through a
variety of assessments and activities Student A has shown that she/he/he is able to count to 10,000; use place value to 10,000;
compare and order numbers, and round to the nearest ten. Student A would benefit from additional practice with rounding to the
nearest hundred. This is a skill we will continue to work on in the next trimester. Keep up the hard work, Student A!

Student B is a hard-working student and shows persistence in her daily class work. Student B continues to grow in her
mathematical skills and work collaboratively within our math community. This trimester Student B has demonstrated a grade-level
appropriate understanding of counting to 10,000 and naming place value up to 10,000. Student B is proficient in being able to
identify numbers as greater than or less than in both symbol and word format. she/he is also able to recognize number patterns
that are counting backward by one in any place value (ex: 8,243 7,243 6,243). Student B’s greatest challenge this trimester was
her application of place value up to the thousands place. Student B is most comfortable using numbers between 0-100. Student B
is still growing in her ability to use place value above 100 to identify and continue number patterns or round to the nearest ten and
hundred. Through one-one-one instruction or small-group instruction, Student B is focusing on solidifying second-grade skills
within her understanding of place value. she/he is needing further support in identifying and using numbers greater than 100.
When rounding Student B only uses the ones and tens place value and leaves off the rest of the number. For example, when
asked to round 531 to the nearest ten she/he answered 10…….
