Activity 1

Write the answers on a word document and attach the document before turning it in.

1. Write 5 real-life examples of bad designs, and explain why they are considered bad designs.

 Apple Iphone – The user interface of ios devices is designed to intuitive and easy to used their
simple and consistent apple layout design that access the features they needs.
 Car Navigation System – The UI are designed with clear and easy to read the icons and also it
provide a better safety, comfortable when driving alone the vechicle.
 Google Search Engine – The search engine is simple and minimalist to used that allows people
quickly access their information they needs which makes more efficient for some users.
 Tesla Electric Cars – Is a good example of HCI design because its features large, high resolution
touch screen display that easily read icons and buttons when driving.
 Nintendo Switch – Its offers a variety of ways to play games with simple designed using
controllers and motion sensor that make accessible for all ages.

2. Write 5 real-life examples of good designs, and explain why they are considered good designs.

 Windows 8 – Is an example of bad design because it introduced some unfamiliar UI that difficult
for users to navigate and communicate somehow its making hard and frustration for the users.
 ATM Interface – Is an example of HCI design because of their complex and confusing interface. It
has small buttons, and a cluttered screen, making difficult for users to navigate and understand.
 Public Transportation Ticket Machines - Ticket machines used in public transportation can also
be a bad example of HCI design due to their complexity.
 Remote Controls – Remote controls can also be a bad example of HCI design because it have too
many buttons, confusing labeling, and a cluttered layout, making it difficult for users.
 Website Navigation - Websites can also be a bad example because of the navigation is confusing
and difficult to use, with poor navigation can make it difficult for users to find the information.

3. Convergence and specialization are two design approaches. Do research on these approaches and cite
some examples.

Convergence is the design approach that aims to combine multiple functions or features into a
single device or interface. This approach is often used in the development of new technologies. Example
of convergence in design is the smartphone, which has combined the functions of a camera, a music
player, a GPS, and many other features into a single device.

Specialization, on the other hand, is the design approach that aims to create devices or
interfaces that are focused on a specific task or function, but it can be less convenient as the user would
need multiple devices to perform different tasks. Example of specialization in design is the design of a
specific tool for a surgical procedure, like graphic design software that is tailored for the specific needs of
graphic designers.

In conclusion, both approaches have their advantages and disadvantages. Convergence allows
for more convenience and efficiency. Specialization allows for a more in-depth and efficient experience.
It depends on the context and the user's needs which approach is more appropriate to use.
