Introduction.

Brian Smith, network administrator of Advanced Energy Technologies (AET), has been

tasked with implementing a large data center to a new office location. AET operates in the

petroleum industry, where there is fierce competition, therefore careful planning is necessary.

AET is one of five national software companies that supply an accounting and business

management suite to oil jobbers and gasoline distributors. Thanks to AET's large data center,

clients can access the entire suite of application software remotely. One of AET's primary

competitive advantages has been the company's IT dependability.

Currently located in the center of downtown, the AET data center occupies the second

floor of a remodeled bank building. The data center move project was approved by the AET

directors to save operational costs and enhance the current IT infrastructure. The project team

thinks that relocating to the newly constructed one-story building in the industrial complex will

be advantageous in the long run since it will put AET in accordance with current construction

regulations and provide opportunities for growth and development in the future.

Project Description.

Following some initial deliberations with AET directors from every functional department, Brian

was officially designated as the data center migration project manager. The project's high-level

requirements are outlined below.

1. Upgrade the new building by adding a data center.

2. Install new ventilation system.

3. Install brand-new network equipment, switches, and server racks.

4. Old data cables and power supply should be updated and replaced.

5. Complete power check and primary system check.

6. Move all network components to the new data center.

The project will involve many teams. Our facilities staff will be primarily responsible for

shipping and inventory management. Our Operations/Systems team will oversee the hardware

migration and logistics. Our Systems and Applications team will handle regulatory functions

related to software and compliance testing, while the Operations/Telecom division will handle

crew resource management, including the installation of workstation phones. Our Customer

Service teams will conduct both UI and end-user testing.

Also, the project team will deploy the test servers over seven days once the power check and

switchover meetings are finished. Before the network is taken offline, the test servers will verify

that all the main network features are operational and serve as a safety measure. Following the

test server installation and power check, Brian will oversee a primary system check with senior

management and call a follow-up meeting to determine the formal date of the network

relocation. All network components can be moved by Brian to the new data center on the

designated day. Expecting the move to finish in two days, he is willing to work on the weekends

if needed.

Based on the feedback and input from various stakeholders and teams involved with the

project team will create WBS table below for the data center migration (Su, Y. (2022)).

Output

The change management plan will be included in the project's changelogs to reduce delays and

guarantee that all parties affected are informed of any changes made within the project deadline.

In addition, the project manager and the stakeholders will oversee a quality management plan.

This will make it more likely that the project's quality goals, and important deliverables will be

met on time.

The main goal that AET Corp set out to accomplish with this project was to relocate its

data center in a way that would be convenient for its clients while meeting the project's quality,
budget, and regulatory criteria. Project team and Brian are certain that they will satisfy the

demands of the stakeholders while staying within the time, budget, and quality restrictions if they

examine and put into practice an out-of-project management strategy. They expect a smooth data

center relocation (PMBOK® Guide) (6th ed.)
