Day 2 (7/7/22)

2. HYDRAULIC
JACKS
Hydraulic jacks are typically used for shop work, rather than as an emergency jack to be carried with
the vehicle. Use of jacks not designed for a specific vehicle requires more than the usual care in
selecting ground conditions, the jacking point on a vehicle, and to ensure stability when the jack is
extended. Hydraulic jacks are often used to lift elevators in low and medium rise buildings.

A hydraulic jack uses a liquid, which is incompressible, that is forced into a cylinder by a pump
plunger. Oil is used since it is self lubricating and stable. When the plunger pulls back, it draws oil
out of the reservoir through a suction check valve into the pump chamber. When the plunger moves
forward, it pushes the oil through a discharge check valve into the cylinder. The suction valve ball is
within the chamber and opens with each draw of the plunger. The discharge valve ball is outside the
chamber and opens when the oil is pushed into the cylinder. At this point the suction ball within the
chamber is forced shut and oil pressure builds in the cylinder. Hydraulic lifts pull up the car by using
a fluid reliant piston mounted inside a cylinder, called a hydraulic ram. It is made up a tank which
contains the fluid (usually oil), a pump powered by an electric motor, and a tube between the
reservoir and cylinder.

The pump forces the tank‘s fluid into a pipe which goes into the cylinder. When the valve is opened,
the oil will return back to the fluid reservoir. When the valve is closed the fluid flows into the
cylinder and pushes the piston upwards. This lifts the lift car.

Once the lift car is at the intended floor, a control system tells the electric motor to slowly shut the
pump. As no more fluid is flowing into the cylinder, the oil that‘s already inside the cylinder is
trapped there, which means that the piston rests on the oil and the lift car becomes motionless.

14 |Page
Day 3 (8/7/22)
3. OIL
CHANGING

Every car is different, but most should have their oil changed every 3,000 miles or three
months. New vehicles usually require a change of oil every 6,000 miles or six months. The longer
an oil change is put off, the engine in general will start to show problems. Most commonly, your
engine will simply become too hot, which can cause it to run less efficiently. If the heat doesn't
cause a gasket to blow, it will warp the parts of your engine. An oil change is the process of
removing and replacing the viscous fluid- otherwise known as oil- that runs through an internal
combustion engine (aka the type of engine in a vehicle). The parts inside the engine move incredibly
fast, which generates both friction and heat.

Regular oil changes improve your car's gas mileage. As the fresh oil moves through the
engine, the lubrication of the metal parts increases your engine's performance and helps it run more
efficiently with less work so it doesn't eat up as much gas. It might seem like a small thing, but
changing the oil in your car at the manufacturer-recommended intervals actually helps with
performance on multiple levels.

15 |Page
Day 4 (9/7/22)
4. ACCELERATOR CABLE

If the accelerator cable is broken or frayed, it cannot relay the signal to the engine. The
engine, in turn, cannot open the butterfly valves and pump oxygen into the carburetor. The
accelerator cable might not perform optimally because it is loose. Usually, you can expect to get
five years from your accelerator cable before it needs to be replaced. Usually, your accelerator cable
won't simply ―let go.‖ You will notice one or more of the following signs: Car jerks when
using cruise control. No engine response when you depress the accelerator pedal. Your car's
accelerator cable, also known as a throttle cable, is a braided metal wire that connects the gas pedal
to the engine throttle plate. By applying and releasing pressure on the gas pedal, the driver is able to
control the speed of the car. Accelerators are intense and fast-paced, taking 3-6 months to get an
early-stage startup ready for market. Typically, startups have done a lot of the legwork to prove their
product before going into an accelerator program; startups should be able to attract investors after
just a few months of mentorship and growth. If the accelerator pedal sensor fails, the following fault
symptoms may occur: Increased engine idling speed. Vehicle does not respond if the accelerator
pedal is pressed. Vehicle switches to "limp-home mode". Culprits include a dirty fuel filter, clogged
fuel tank strainer, clogged or failing fuel injectors, or a defective fuel pump.

16 |Page
Day 5 (11/7/22)
5. BRAKE
PAD

When you brake, the brake pads squeeze the rotor to stop your car. However, when the pads
are excessively worn, exposed metal on the pads grinds against the rotors every time you brake,
producing a grinding noise and likely damaging the rotors. between 30,000 and 70,000 miles. Brake
pads generally last between 30,000 and 70,000 miles, but some can last as long as 100,000 miles.
There are many factors that account for this wide range. First, brake pads come in a variety of types
and compositions and are attached to even more varying brake systems and rotors. But, when
changing brake pads, should you do all four at once? Well, first, you absolutely should replace both
front or both rear brake pads at the same time. Unless something's really wrong, one should be
wearing out at about the same rate as the other. Elevate your vehicle about 6" off the ground,
unscrew the lug nuts and remove the tire. Once the tire is off, you'll have a good view of not only
the brake pad but also of the caliper, rotor and brake lines. Carefully inspect the brake pad, looking
for excessive wear. The most comm on cause of failure is a leak in the brake lines. The brake fluid
will slowly drain out, until there isn't enough left to transmit the pressure from the pedal to the tires.
The brakes can also fail when the discs or drums wear out, so they can no longer put enough friction
on the wheels to stop them.

17 |Page
Day 6 (12/7/22)

6. SUSPENSION

Worn suspension components may reduce the stability of the vehicle and reduce driver
control, as well as accelerate wear on other suspension system components. Replacing worn or
inadequate shocks and struts will help maintain good ride control, as they: Control spring and
suspension movement. Depending on vehicle and driving conditions, many cars require shock and
strut replacements sometime after the fifty thousand mile marker. Instead of waiting to notice
problems, you might consider having your suspension checked once you reach the fifty thousand
mile mark, or every fifty thousand miles on most vehicles. Over time, shocks and struts can lose
their ability to control weight transfer; this is what causes you to feel like you're not in control of
your vehicle. This can be dangerous, especially if your tires lose contact with the pavement, making
it difficult to control your vehicle in an emergency situation. Some shock absorber manufacturers
say you should replace them at 50,000 miles, but that's more for their benefit than yours. Having the
shocks and suspension parts inspected at 40,000 or 50,000 miles, then annually after that, is a better
idea. You may not think a lot about your car's suspension system, but if it fails, it can quite literally
stop you in your tracks. Driving with a broken or worn out suspension system not only puts
unnecessary wear and tear on your vehicle's tires, but it can put you—and others on the road—at
serious risk.

18 |Page
Day 7 (13/7/22)

7. TYRE REPLACEMENT

A Tyre needs to be typically replaced every 5 to 6 years, even if the tread is not worn out.
This is done for the safety of the vehicle. However, the tyres and tread should be checked far more
regularly to assess whether they need to be changed sooner or not. As a thumb rule, do not buy tyres
that are more than six months old and use them for more than three years or 40,000kms.Generally,
it's not recommended to change tyres one at a time. Which begs the question, why should you
change tyres in pairs? While it's tempting to save money and just change the tyre that requires the
most attention, having different ages or brands of tyre on your car can alter the way the vehicle is
balanced. How long does a typical tyre-fitting service last? A typical tyre fitting will take around 30
minutes for each tyre. So, tyre fitting for four wheels on a standard car will take around 2 hours. It's
always best to replace all 4 tires at the same time. This is because all 4 tires spin independently of
one another, and different tread depths and/or styles c an cause them to spin at different speeds.
That could potentially damage the drive train, and possibly affect an indirect TPMS system if the
vehicle has one. While ideally, you should always fit four new tyres simultaneously, you may
replace two tyres on the same axle. If the two tyres have different wear, they may grip differently on
road surfaces leading to a loss of control.

19 |Page
Day 8 (14/7/22)

8. SPARK PLUG

In general, it's best to replace spark plugs as part of preventative maintenance based on
manufacturer's specifications. This can help save you from costly repairs, as driving with misfiring
spark plugs could put undue stress on your car's catalytic converter the engine's exhaust cleaner.
Over time, spark plugs and wires can become worn out, causing the engine to misfire or run
roughly. Replacing them can help to keep your engine running smoothly. If you let your spark plugs
go for too long, you could do some severe damage to your engine. The deposits that build upon the
plugs can eventually cause them to misfire. When this happens, the unburned fuel in the cylinders
can start to eat away at the cylinder walls. How long spark plugs last varies by manufacturer and
vehicle, but on many vehicles today, they should be good for 100,000 or more miles. Some vehicles,
though, will have shorter intervals, particularly performance and luxury models. Over time, spark
plugs may become clogged or damaged, resulting in decreased engine performance.

20 |Page
Day 9 (15/7/22)

9. HEAD LIGHT REPLACEMENT

A car headlight should be replaced after an average time of 2,000 hours and 3,000 hours. In
simple terms, you should replace your car's headlight when the emitted light is not enough to see in
the dark, or it is giving you constant trouble. Halogen bulbs and sealed beam headlights have very
fine tungsten wire filaments inside that emit light when heated. Even under ideal conditions, the
filament can break, leaving you in the dark. Vibration caused by driving over rough roads, potholes
and bumps will reduce the filament lifespan. The likely cause is a fuse, headlight relay, headlight
switch, dimmer switch or a wiring fault. About the only cause that is an easy fix is a blown fuse. A
bad alternator, ageing headlight lenses and a corroded ground wire could also be the cause of dim
headlights. Dim headlights may also point to a bigger issue with the vehicle's electrical system or
battery. The most common reasons why headlights don't get bright enough are that they either a lack
of voltage in the circuit, the wrong size bulb, or the lens of the headlight is oxidized or faded. If this
occurred right after the lights were replaced I would suspect that the wrong bulbs were used. Worn
Alternator Belt. Headlights that appear to brighten and dim at random intervals may indicate that the
alternator belt needs replacing. This belt attaches to a pulley that connects the alternator to the
engine. If the belt is old and worn, it may alternate between slipping and gripping.

21 |Page
Day 10 (16/7/22)

10. MUFFLER

Knowing when to replace your muffler is important, especially if you drive an older car. A
damaged muffler can cause your car to make strange noises and could even strand you on the side of
the road. Loud, roaring noises coming from your muffler is a sure sign that your muffler may need
to be replaced. When your muffler starts to make loud noises, this usually means that there is either
a hole in it or it's suffered some other form of damage. A typical factory muffler should last about
three to five years. It's a good idea to have your mechanic look at your exhaust system as part of
your regular car maintenance, and if you notice unusual noise and fumes or a change in gas mileage,
always have a technician take a look. One of the most common and obvious signs of a damaged
muffler is loud noises coming from the exhaust. Since one of the primary functions of the muffler is
to muffle sound, a damaged muffler can allow sound to escape early, making your vehicle sound
much louder than normal.

22 |Page
Day 11 (18/7/22)

11. BATTERY REPLACEMENT

After three years, it's normally time to replace. After four or five years, most car batteries
will be almost completely unreliable. Old car batteries can present a number of safety and reliability
issues. Luckily, it's easy to identify if your car's battery is nearing the end of its lifespan. Some cars
will get up to five or six years out of their battery, while others will need a new one after only two
years. In general, your car will usually need a new battery after three to four years. Replacing your
car battery is another part of routine maintenance. Positive first, then negative. When disconnecting
the cables from the old battery, disconnect the negative first, then the positive. Connect the new
battery in the reverse order, positive then negative. For instance, KIA offers a ten-year battery pack
warranty, while Hyundai provides lifetime coverage. Generally, electric vehicle batteries last 10-20
years, but some factors may reduce their lifespan. Batteries gradually deteriorate until they can no
longer provide enough power to start an engine. This wear time could take three to five years and a
vehicle's usage pattern is one factor contributing to the rate at which a battery will age.

23 |Page
Day 12 (19/7/22)

12. AUDIO SYSTEM

Speakers take an amplified electrical signal and convert it into mechanical energy that moves
the speaker cone back and forth to create sound. Sound is essentially vibrations in the air that we
hear, and a speaker cone creates these vibrations. However, all electronic audio systems are based
around one very simple concept: To take sound waves, convert them into an electric current and
manipulate them as desired, then convert them back into sound waves. Other names for automotive
head units include car stereo, car receiver, deck, in-dash stereo, and dash stereo. The faster the air
pressure changes, the higher the ―frequency‖ of the sound we hear. Sound moves in pressure waves.
When air particles are compressed and rarified fast enough, we hear it as sound. When a speaker
moves back and forth it pushes on air particles which changes the air pressure and creates sound
waves. The most important audio components in your stereo are the source components (i.e. cd
player, tuner or record player). The quality of the musical signal coming out of this first component
defines the ultimate ability of any stereo system.

24 |Page
Day 13 (20/7/22)

13. REPLACEMENT OF WING MIRROR

You don't have to replace the entire side view mirror assembly just because the glass is
broken. Replacing the mirror glass is a do-it-yourself project that is usually inexpensive. Several
manufacturers offer precut glass mirrors to fit vehicles of all makes and models. Driving is illegal if
your car does not have two working mirrors, ensuring that one of them is on the driver's side. After
all, it is dangerous to drive without side mirrors and safety equipment. A side-view mirror (or side
mirror), also known as a wing mirror, is a mirror placed on the exterior of motor vehicles for the
purposes of helping the driver see areas behind and to the sides of the vehicle, outside the driver's
peripheral vision (in the "blind spot").The wing mirrors on a car are the mirrors on each side of the
car on the outside.

25 |Page
Day 14 (21/7/22)

14. REPLACEMENT OF GEAR KNOB

Installing your new shift knob depends on two things: how you removed the old one and the
fit of the replacement. If you bought a direct-fit shift knob, there shouldn't be a problem with
installation, as it can be attached as is. There are two ways your shift knob can come off. The first is
through a built-in threading at the bottom of the knob and inside the shifter. If your vehicle has this,
simply turn the knob in a counterclockwise direction and remove it. The second way is through a
screw that holds the knob onto the shifter. In an automatic transmission, the gear shifter is known as
a gear selector. The gear shifter is normally located between the two front seats of the vehicle on a
manual transmission. The gear knob is the top of the gear shifter, and includes a shift pattern that
guides the gear selection.

26 |Page
Day 15 (22/7/22)

15. TEST DRIVE

A test drive is the driving of a motor vehicle to assess its drivability or roadworthiness, and
general operating state. A person who tests vehicles for a living, either for an automobile company,
automotive media for review purposes, or a motorsports team, is called a test driver. The first test
drives of a new production vehicle are made by mainstream automobile magazines and other third
parties (not customers) for initial evaluation. Once vehicles are for sale, test drives are also usually
allowed by vehicle traders (dealerships) or manufacturers to enable prospective customers to
determine the suitability of the vehicle to their driving style. Test drives can also be taken before
vehicle repairs to assist in diagnosis or after repair works to ensure that the vehicle has been fully
restored.

CONCLUSION

I was a good experience for me understanding an intern in a company. I enjoyed learning from this
internship, the staff members and workers are talked to me politely and taught me patiently.
However I need to know many things in my core subject, but this gave me a good experience and
taught me about how a company runs every day. Overall this internship is positive for me and the
things i learned will be useful for my career in future and I am thankful to Mr. S.Siva kumar
(Manager-HR & Admin of Olympia Honda) for providing an opportunity to work in this
organization. I am very much thankful to engineers in the company for providing me this valuable
guidance and useful study material to accomplish the report. I also express my sincere thanks all the
faculties for their valuable guidance and useful study material for all duration of the project and for
spending their valuable time to tackle all problems encountered during my project. Last but not least
I would like to thank each and every member of Olympia Honda.
