In 1974, Naval Barangay High School, which was the former name of the school

was established under the supervision of Mr. Matondo, District Supervisor of Lamak
Central School, Hilongos North District. The mission of the school was to provide quality
Basic Education that is accessible to all and lay the foundation of the lifelong learning
and services for the common good. By then, there were only 25 students enrolled.
From the year it was established up to 1987, the school was under the Elementary
leadership. In 1974, it was administered by the school head, Mr. Prudencio Villejo, and
there were only two teachers handling classes. His administration lasted until 1979.
Gregorio E. Basalo Sr.,Gen. Sec Principal II, took over in the year 1980 to 1981. Then in
1981 to 1984, it was Mr. Atilano G. Sabando who took over. During that time, there
were already six teachers since enrolment continued to increase. Due to school transfer
of the former principal, Mrs. Vicenta M. Fulache was designated as an assistant school
principal. Her leadership lasted until 1987.
Since its opening, the school’s dynamic educational environment has continued
to evolve and in the year 1988, it was converted to Naval National High School under
the effort of Mrs. Estelita S. Anadon, Teacher In-Charge. By then, it was separated from
the elementary leadership. The latter served the institution for ten long years. And
when she was assigned to another school, Mr. Zosimo came in to be the new school
head from 1999 until 2004. When Mr. Cabug-os transferred to another school, Mr.
Dionesio Suarez took his place as the new school head from 2005 until 2007.Due to his
retirement, the latter turned over the office to the new principal from Hindang High
School, Mr. Silvano D.Corcilles whose exemplary performance lasted for five long years.
Due to reshuffling of school heads, the latter moved to Bung-aw National while Mrs.
Buenaventurada G. Capangpangan took his place and her administration lasted until
July 2018. Fate brought back the former principal, Mr. Silvano D.Corcilles to his old
home, Naval National High School in 2019 and up to the present.

The school thru the PTA and Barangay Council purchased a lot in 1989 with an

area of 4,810 sq. m. Hence, the lot had undergone land dispute litigation subject to

RTC-Hilongos’ decision.

The school has primary feeder areas on school-age population of Naval, Owak,

Matapay, San Juan, Tagbibi, Lamak, Magnangoy, Sta. Cruz and other barangays in

Hilongos and Hindang as secondary sources. The first five primary catchments

barangays are generally farming-fishing communities while the rest are pure farming
villages. Most barangay fiesta celebrations fall during Christmas and long vacation. Due

to culture and extended family ties, some students are left to their grandparents and

other relatives for them to care while real parents are working outside the peripheral

barangays of the schools.

Children have to come to the school thru the National Highway and walk to the

school site for about 200 meters. Magnangoy, Tagbibi and main Naval students have to

come to school by foot thru the barangay roads ranging from 300 m to 2 kilometers.

Other students within the primary feeder barangays had to commute directly to the

school or up to the barangay junction with the National Road before taking a hike of

200 meters. Few students had to travel more than 5 kilometers to school either in one

or two rides to school site.

Despite the development thrusts of the local government, poverty is observed in

the area which includes limited asset holding of the households and almost hand-to-

mouth existence as indicated by the seasonal wage farm workers and fishing

operations, large family size and increasing number of child labor.

For student’s population, most of the students enrolled in this school were
average academic performers. Some, were either rejected by urban public and private
secondary schools as new students or discarded from the similar schools stated above
due to poor performance during previous years for grades 8 – 11 transferee students.
But most of them were transformed during their stay in school.
Developing successful students was the goal of many schools. With this
viewpoint, Naval National High teachers work together to recognize successful students.
Our students also have received numerous awards across all arenas of school life. They
contend from school to regional level representation in sports, Science, Home
Economics, extracurricular activities and the like.
One of Naval NHS moments of pride when it comes to some team sports
competition popularly known as Basketball was last 1990 under the tremendous support
of Mr. Bonifacio Rivera. His best basketball player was Alvin T. Milano who was chosen
to represent the EVRAA at Burongon Samar. On Jumps diversion, another player named
Robert F. Malatag was selected to be a Palarong Pambansa participant in 2010.
Navalians are not just good in sports but in brain and beauty competitions as
well. In fact, Ms. Elsen Mae Betinque belonged to the Top 10 of Miss Kalikasan 2006 in
Isabel Leyte.
Another achievement was in the field of Home Economics. In the 2011 Regional
Festival of Talents, Roselyn Fordaliza bagged the third place in Table Skirting and Table
Setting. In the 2012 Division Festival of Talents, Maria Carissa Santos also won the first
place still in Table Skirting and Table Setting and in the same year, during the Regional
Festival of Talents , Fe Jonalyn Olivo bagged the first place still in Table Skirting and
Table Setting. During the Division Technolympics in 2016, Jessa Mae Jagna bagged the
third Place in Experimental Fish Dish. The latter mentioned contests won was under the
expert coaching of Mrs. Ma. Pamela R. Gabisan. These achievements, inspire younger
Navalians to be confident and be optimistic that they can achieve anything and
anything is possible. Another non-academic achievement was in the field of journalism
as Ms. Jessa Jagna bagged 7 th place in the Regional Press Conference at Basey Samar
in 2016 with her coach, Mrs. Racel Valdueza-Vilbar.
Naval National High also became one of the top five Eco-Friendly schools in Area
V-B in 2017 and befitted the second spot out of 24 schools. It was made possible under
the leadership, dedication and initiative of Mrs. Myrna D, Abedejos.
We have likewise continued to excel academically. In fact, Naval National High
School’s MPS belongs to Top 5 out of 51 schools in Area V –B with an average of 77.06
% in the SY: 2018-2019. The said challenging task indicates hard work, organization
and a sense of responsibility among all teachers and students.
Another significant accomplishment was the MANCOM that was held in 2003 with
the supervision of the former school principal, Mr.Zosimo Cabug-os and lately, it
became one of the hosts /headquarters in the Regional Festival of Talents and Press
Conference in 2015 and Provincial Meet in 2019. This shows that this small school is
one of the indispensable tools when it comes to historical events in the Leyte Division.
In order to improve quality education, Naval National High internal and external
stakeholders’ collaborative efforts made our SBM Level 1 of practice to SBM level 2. The
Scope of SBM ensures effective school decision- making and implementation of such
programs and projects.
Furthermore, Alumni willingness to support any School Projects is considered one
of our notable and remarkable achievements. They are our priceless achievements
because we do believe that they continue to celebrate incredibly across every field of
studies they are into with right now. We, Navalians as one family, considered our school
as a progressive one with all the achievements we are in as we focused on what makes
a difference.
Presently, the school has one (1) School Principal and 16 teachers’ items; two (2)

Master Teachers, six (6) Teacher III, three (3) Teacher II and five (5) Teacher I.

The school aimed to achieve quality education for all and imparted meaningful

learning experiences to all students adhering to the DepEd Vision, Mission, Goals and

Objectives; embracing the standard curriculum and effective application of teaching-

learning process in all aspects of classroom instructions. To extend its quality

educational services, the school administrators and teaching force complied and

submitted documents for the approval of the Senior High school offering. Fortunately, it

was successfully approved and was opened in June 2018, offering Academic Track with

General Academics Strand (GA) specializing in HUMMS. With this new offering, it

opened doors and opportunities to the students as well as to the newly hired competent

teachers as they imparted their knowledge, skills and expertise for the progress of the

school and its community as a whole.
