Biotechnology

We can’t deny that there are advantages to having Genetically Modified crops or

foods, like pest resistance, drought/salinity tolerance, herbicide tolerance, cold

tolerance, disease resistance and pharmaceuticals. Farmers that have adopted GM

technology would undoubtedly benefit from GM crops in the production of their crops.

However, there are many things we don't know about genetically modified foods, such

as their long-term health impacts.

According to certain studies, genetically modified crops are potentially

hazardous. And in certain situations, a developed characteristic has failed, which is why

some large supermarkets have decided that they will no longer sell GM foods. However,

there have been no reports of adverse consequences from GM food in humans. GMO

foods have the promise of increasing food value while also raising concerns about

potential dangers to human health and the environment. But GM food is harmful not

only to humans who consume it, but also to other organisms that may consume this.

Aside from genetically modified foods, there is also Gene Therapy, which aids

the body's ability to fight sickness. According to some reports, gene therapy will only be

available to the fortunate and to parents who wish for their children to have particular

abilities such as being extremely strong, bright, athletic, or attractive. Gene therapy has

the potential to create disparity between persons who have been genetically changed

and those who have not; it is similar to the inequality that exists between rich and poor

people. For me, there should be a limit to the use of gene therapy. The therapy should

only be use when some person is diseased or a baby is in risk of genetic disorder and

gene therapy is the only solution to cure such disease or disorder.
