A Semi-detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 8

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the Grade VIII learners with 80% accuracy will be able to:
a. identify and describe the Rectangular Coordinate System;
b. illustrates the Rectangular Coordinate System and its uses; and (M8AL-le-1)
c. appreciate the value of the Rectangular Coordinate System in daily life situation.

II. Subject Matter:

Topic: Rectangular Coordinate System

III. Teaching Learning Procedure:

A. Preliminary Activities
 A.1 Prayer
 A.2 Greetings
 A.3 Classroom Management
 A.4 Checking of Attendance
 A.5 Review of the Previous Topic

B. Motivation
 The teacher will let the students play the “Pass and Locate Me!”.
 The teacher will pass the marker to the students while singing the “Jingle Bells” song,
and the students also will pass to their seatmate until I say STOP. The student who is last
to hold the marker will be the one who will be located by his/her classmate on what row
and column did he/she belong.
 The teacher will call random student to locate his/her who is last to hold the marker.

C. Lesson Proper
C.1 Presentation
 The teacher will introduce the topic Rectangular Coordinate System.
 The teacher will present the learning objectives.

C.2 Discussion
 The teacher will discuss about the Rectangular Coordinate System’s origin and its parts.
 The teacher will also let the students plot and determine the points in a Rectangular
Coordinate System.
 The teacher will let the students plot the points and determine the quadrant or axis did the
points lies.

D. Application
 The student will group into 5 groups. Each group will have a graphing paper to plot the
points in a Rectangular Coordinate System.
 The teacher will give each group a list coordinates that they will be going to plot in their
graphing paper.
 The teacher will let the students plot the points with the given coordinates and determine
from what quadrant or axis it lies.
 The teacher will ask each group a representative to present their output in front.
Group Activity
Direction: Plot the given coordinates/ordered pair in a Cartesian Coordinate Plane.
Determine what quadrant or axis it lies.
1. A (O, -5) 5. L (4, 1)
2. B (-4, -1) 6. U (4, -1)
3. S (-4, 1) 7. T (-2, 2)
4. O (0, 0) 8. E (2, 2)

E. Generalization
 The teacher will ask random students on what they learn about the topic.

IV. Evaluation
Direction: Given the points in the coordinate plane, determine the coordinates and its corresponding
quadrants.
