ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

I would like to thank God for granting us life and energy to do our SBA’s, secondly, I would like
to thank our principal Mr. Davis, for allowing us to complete our SBA and practical despite this
rampant disease. Thanks to all our teachers helping us in our weak points.
Equipment used in cricket:

Cricket Bat: A bat is made of wood and has a handle where the batsman holds the bat. It cannot
be longer than 38 inches or wider than 4.25 inches. The front portion of the bat is flat and back
portion has a slender curve, which gives the bat thickness and balance.

Ball: The standard circumference of a cricket ball is 9 inches. The ball is made of cork at its
center, wrapped in twine and covered with leather, which is stitched to form a seam. White ball
is used in the short version of the game, while a red ball is used in the test cricket.

Stumps: These are three wooden poles of height 28 inches. It has a conical bottom and a
horizontal groove across the top end. There are three stumps at each end, with two bails sitting
across the top of them and are equally spaced to cover a width of 9 inches.

Boundary: A rope which demarcates the perimeter of the field is known as boundary line. This is
marked by a thick white rope.

Sight Screen: It is the screen outside the boundary, exactly perpendicular to the width of the
pitch and behind both pairs of stumps for better visibility. A black screen is used for the one day
internationals, since this version is played with a white ball and a screen of a lighter shade is
used for test cricket.

Cricket clothing is fashioned in such a way, so that it is comfortable and at the same time
provides the proper protection to the players. Apart from t-shirts with collar, pants, hats, caps,
spiked shoes, and sunglasses, following is the list of important protective gear.

Leg Pads: These are worn by batsmen and wicket keepers to protect themselves against the pace
of the ball. Today’s pads are very light in weight but are still great protection for the batsmen.
Wicket keeper’s pads are similar to batting pads, but they are shorter and lighter in weight,
making them easier to move and dive around in.

Gloves: There are two types of gloves, one used by batsmen which has thick padding above the
fingers. Wicket keeper wears the other gloves, which are larger in size with web between thumb
and forefinger. Wicket keepers like to wear a pair of cotton inners underneath the main gloves.
Helmet: Helmets are worn by batsmen and a maximum of one close fielder or keeper. Helmet is
a must to avoid any accident in the field be it full toss, top-edged or a throw, which can hit the
player’s head.

Abdominal Guard: It is high density plastic with smooth edge worn to protect the “privates”
when batting against a cricket ball or other hard ball. Wicket keepers and fielders close to the
wicket should also wear it. It is also called box, cup or cricket box.
History of cricket

Global history :The exact origins of cricket are unknown, but are believed to date back to the
16th century, the name deriving from the Anglo-Saxon word ‘cricc’, meaning a shepherd’s staff.
It is thought that the first players were English shepherds, who used their ‘criccs’ as bats and the
wicket gate of the sheep pens as a target for the bowlers or pitchers.

The first known game in which the teams use county names is in 1709. In the first half of the
18th Century cricket established itself as a leading sport in London and the south-eastern
counties of England. Its spread was limited by the constraints of travel, but it was slowly gaining
popularity in other parts of England.

Local history : Jamaica did not play regular first-class cricket until 1964. The country played in
the inaugural Shell Shield first-class competition, winning it on the fourth attempt, but then had
to wait until 1977-1978 for their next title when they shared the one-day title with Leeward
Islands.
Who is a scorer ?

A scorer is a person who is responsible for recording the cricket score. The scorer
must always accept and record the umpire signals as given. Different methods of
scoring
Role of a scorer .

While the scorers' role is clearly defined under the Laws of Cricket to be merely the
recording of runs, wickets and overs, and the constant checking of the accuracy of
their records with each other and with the umpires
Responsibility of a scorer .

Scoring in cricket matches involves two elements – the number of runs scored and the
number of wickets lost by each team. The scorer is someone appointed to record all
runs scored, all wickets taken and, where appropriate, the number of overs bowled.
Dimension of a cricket field

A cricket field is a large grass field on which the game of cricket is played. Although generally oval
in shape, there is a wide variety within this: some are almost perfect circles, some elongated ovals
and some entirely irregular shapes with little or no symmetry – but they will have entirely curved
boundaries, almost without exception.
Reflection

The fist meeting was held on March 16 , 2021 . We chose an non-contact sport because of the on
going pandemic . Different roles were being pick and I chose the role of a scorer because I knew
how to score already and I was more comfortable with this role .

The competition was held on May 13,2021 , as for what I was seeing everyone did their role very
well so did I . I was a little bit nervous because I haven’t scored in a while but it was a good
moment in time as in I gained more experience.

The experience I gained can be more beneficial to me as in I can try to score for cricket teams for
a career , I know most umpire signals and all fielding position .

I think I did a very good job , if sometime in the future I would like to get a call from I.C.C or
any cricket board I would be happy and thankful .
