The Bucket List

Objective: I can research the action steps to accomplish a goal.

Maybe you’ve seen the memes on Pinterest or the movie with Jack
Nicholson and Morgan Freeman. Maybe you know someone with an
insane Bucket List… or someone who died before they could finish his or
hers.

Bucket Lists are traditionally wish lists of things you want to do (or buy)
before you pass away (before you “kick the bucket”). However, there has
also been a cultural insurgence of “Crib Lists” (things to do before you have
kids), “Graduation Lists” (things to do before you graduate high school or
college), or “Ring Lists” (things to do before you get married). Plus, not all
bucket lists are expensive trips to Europe or extreme adventures skydiving –
some of them are practical, emotional, or personal, like seeking forgiveness
or making your family tree.

No matter what or why, bucket lists are very personal. Therefore, even when we
present our bucket lists to each other, you are not required to share WHY you chose that
item, or any other details that you want to keep to yourself.

Your mission is to MAKE your bucket list, research ONE of the items on it, and PRESENT it to the class.

Wait… why are we doing this? Isn’t it kind of morbid?


No - at least, it’s not intended to be macabre. It depends on your perspective. This project is about
setting goals, figuring out how to accomplish the goal, and living out your dreams. (#YOLO)

Step 1: Making Your Bucket List


Use the graphic organizer provided to make your bucket list, choose ONE for this research project,
and begin finding sources. Pick a task that you can actually research and that isn’t too easy. (For
example, “read a book” or “make up with that friend” won’t really work, but “Go Skydiving” or “Visit
Mecca” are complex and interesting.) The ideal task would have multiple steps or require
effort/action.

Step 2: Present Research Findings

Finally, you will make the world’s shortest presentation (really) in which you tell us what your item is
and teach us how you would go about accomplishing it. (Again, telling us “why” you chose it is
optional.) You have a maximum of 5 slides and 4 minutes for this.

When you make your slides, BE SPECIFIC: tell us dollar amounts, websites, street addresses, who
would drive you, who would go with you, and what supplies or training you might need. You could
even TEACH us about the topic and any techniques or how-tos that could help us to do it also. The
point of the presentation is to make that goal “real” and for yourself AND others.

don’t think it counts as a “list” if you have fewer than 3 things on it. There is no maximum number of
items.)
