Topic: “How hydro-dipping
works on different materials”

Research Question:
Does hydro-dipping work best on
oil-based spray paint or on acrylic-
based spray paint?

Hypothesis:
Oil-based spray paint works best
on ceramic objects.
Objectives
1)To find out which material does
hydro-dipping work the best on and
how well it sticks on to
the object and why.

2)To reduce Pollution

3)Making personalized cost

effective gifts for loved ones.
BACKGROUND
RESEARCH
Hydro dipping can form seamlessly simulated
natural or other required texture colors on
products with complex shapes. This is a new
transfer printing process researched on
complex shapes and dead angle problems that
cannot be overcome by general traditional
printing processes such as heat transfer
printing, thermal transfer printing, silk screen
printing, and surface coating. Its adhesion
effect is not affected by the product material.
The use of water transfer printing equipment
does not require plate making, and the
drawing can be produced directly and
transferred immediately (the whole process
can be completed in only 30 minutes, which
is most suitable for proofing). Furthermore,
hydro dipping (also known as hydrographic
printing), is eco-friendly as it is a much better
idea then using plastic wrappers for wrapping
gifts. Since gift wrappers are only one-time
use, they get thrown out in the environment
and it pollutes the land since plastic is not
People buy ribbons and cards along with a
gift which adds to the pollution in the
environment. This is where hydro-dipping
jumps in. Its is more cost effective and does
require a lot of effort. The environment is not
harmed as no plastic is being thrown out or
any other pollutants. It makes the present
more special as well since not all hydro-d
ipping ideas are the same so it makes the
present unique.
Materials
1)Clear tub of water
2)Thin wooden sticks for different designs
3)Oil-based spray paints
4)Acrylic-based spray paints
5) Ceramic Mugs, blocks, football, phone
cases, wooden structures, plastic balls
6)Gloves
7)Masks
8)Disposable body suit
9) White base spray paint
Methodology
1)Fill your bucket or tub full of water. The
size of the bucket or tub will be determined
by the object size.
2)Spray different colors of paint directly into
the water. Make sure to do this in a
ventilated area. We choose to do this outside.
Each layer of paint will spread out in the
water and tend to come back in the center
spreading over the surface.
3) Use a stick to swirl the paint design just
the way you want it before you dip your
object. This is the reason to use a good
amount of paint.
4) Dip your object into the paint design.
Before you remove your object, be sure to use
an object to remove the paint away from the
water before you pull the design back up
from the water. If you still have paint on top
of the water, that design will
stick to your object.
SAFETY
PRECAUTIONS ☢️
1)Wear masks as the spray paint fumes can
be fatal if inhaled
2)Do not bring any electric devices close to
the tub or the experiment area as it could
KABOOM.
3)Wear protective suites to make sure your
clothes stay clean if spray paint gets on
clothes
4)Wear gloves to avoid damaging your hands
in case you have sensitive skin and or if you
don’t want to get paint on your hands.
