Biography:

 Born in Davao City, Philippines


 Agnes Dakudao Locsin is a renowned choreographer, director, and teacher.
 She is widely recognized as one of the “most progressive contemporary choreographers in the
Philippines”. Her unique approach to dance combines Filipino beliefs, rituals, and ethnic
traditions, which she calls "neo-ethnic."

Notable Works:

 Babaylan: This choreography achieved second place in the Tokyo International Choreography
Competition in 1993.
 Taong Talangka (Man-Crab): Another successful work in her portfolio.
 Salome: Camille Ordinario, one of the dancers in "Salome," secured second place in the 1994
Concours International de la Danse in Paris, France.

Contributions and Roles:

 Agnes Locsin became a faculty member at the Cultural Center of the Philippines Dance School
and the University of the Philippines College of Music dance program and Jazz Tap Center.
 In 1990, she assumed the role of Artistic Director for Ballet Philippines II, the junior company of
Ballet Philippines. Her choreographies for Ballet Philippines contributed significantly to its status
as one of the country's premier dance companies.
 Locsin also contributed works to the repertoire of other groups as well as the Cultural Center of
the Philippines. She broadened her scope when she choreographed for the theatrical
productions of Tanghalang Pilipino and PETA,
 Locsin also led the Locsin Dance Workshop, which her mother founded, upon her return to
Davao.

Awards and Recognitions:

 Hiyas ng Lahi Award from the Dance Alliance and National Choreography Endeavors in 1992.
 Araw ng Manila’s Patnubay sa Kalinangan at Sining Award from the City of Manila in 1994.
 Datu Bago Award from the City of Davao in 2000.
 Pilak Award para sa Serbisyong Pangkultura, Sining at Kumunidad from the Cultural Center of
the Philippines in 2004.
 Gawad Buhay awards for outstanding production and original choreography for "La Revolucion
Filipina" in 2008 and "Encantada" in 2011 from Philstage.
 Gawad CCP para Sining from the Cultural Center of the Philippines in 2013.
 Gawad Tanglaw Lahi from Ateneo de Manila University in 2014.
 Daigler Award for Mindanao Culture and the Arts from Ateneo de Davao University in 2017.
 Gador Award from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts in 2020.
 Gawad Buhay Lifetime Achievement Award from Philstage in 2018.

Published Work:

 Agnes Locsin authored the book "Neo-Ethnic Choreography: A Creative Process," published by
the University of Santo Tomas in 2012. The book won the Alfonso T. Ongpin Prize for Best Book
on Arts at the 32nd National Book Award.

Name: Guillermo Estrella Tolentino

Birthdate: July 24, 1890


Passing: July 12, 1976

Biography:

 Born in Malolos, Bulacan, Philippines.


 "Father of Philippine Arts”
 Recognized as a master in representing the human form in the Philippines.
 Guillermo Estrella Tolentino was a prominent figure in Philippine art, representing the Revival
period in Philippine artistry. He had the privilege of studying in Europe, where he was enrolled at
the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. Upon his return to the Philippines in 1925, he was
appointed as a professor at the UP School of Fine Arts. It was during his time there that he
conceived the idea of creating a monument to honor national heroes.

Notable Works:

 UP Oblation: One of his most famous works, the UP Oblation, was created and completed in
1933. This iconic sculpture has become a symbol of freedom on the University of the Philippines
campus.
 Bonifacio Monument: Located in Caloocan, the Bonifacio Monument is considered another
masterpiece by Tolentino. It stands as a lasting symbol of the Filipino people's struggle for
freedom.

 Bronze figures of President Quezon at the Quezon Memorial.


 Life-size busts of Jose Rizal at the University of the Philippines (UP) and the University of the East
(UE).
 Marble statue of Ramon Magsaysay in the GSIS Building.
 Granolithic statues representing education, medicine, forestry, veterinary science, fine arts, and
music at the University of the Philippines.

Design Contributions:

 Guillermo Tolentino designed the gold and bronze medals for the Ramon Magsaysay Award,
which is a prestigious recognition in the Philippines.
 He was also responsible for designing the seal of the Republic of the Philippines.
