Date/Time: April 1, 2023/8:00 am - 10:00 am
Venue: Barangay Mahay
XI - St. David

On the morning of April 1, 2023, The Grade

11 STEM Students of Father Saturnino Urios
University, sections St. David, St, Clement,
and St.Sylvester gathered around the
Mahay Covered Court Grounds to discuss to
the residents living near the area the
importance of having the knowledge to
know how and what to do and prepare in
case of emergencies. Each section was
given the opportunity to discuss their
assigned hazards namely fire, earthquake, and hydrometeorological.
During the Community Extension Service, not only were students
discussing what and what not to do during these hazards, they were also
keeping the audience (which was mostly composed of elderly)
entertained by showcasing their talents in both dancing and singing as
each section prepared an intermission number specifically for the Mahay
residents.

Disaster readiness and risk reduction

are critically important for individuals,
communities, and nations as a whole.
This is simply due to the fact that it
helps saves lives by preparing
individuals to respond to emergencies
effectively; minimizes damages as it can
help reduce the impact of both hazards
and disasters; reduces economic impact
including damage to property; enhances
resilience by improving the ability of individuals and communities to cope
with emergencies; and lastly, it help supports sustainable development.
