Biography
• Stephen Hawking was an English theoretical physicist and
cosmologist.
• He was born in January 8, 1942, and died on March 14, 2018.

• Despite being affected by a motor neurone disease that severely

limited his physical abilities, he was able to build a phenomenally
successful career.

Invention
• Stephen Hawking is known for his work related to the study of black
holes.
• With the theoretical prediction that black holes emit radiation, a
theory called ‘Hawking radiation’.
• He became the first to set forth a cosmology explained by a union of
the general theory of relativity and quantum mechanics!

STAGES EVIDENCE
OBSERVATION Stephen Hawking observed that black holes emit radiation, now known
as Hawking Radiation.

QUESTION Why do black holes emit radiation?

HYPOTHESIS Black holes have a temperature higher than it’s surroundings.

EXPERIMENT Scientists study the thermal distribution of Hawking radiation, stimulated by

quantum vacuum fluctuations, coming from a model black hole created in the
laboratory.

ANALYSIS It is found that the model black holes emit radiation. And the smaller the
mass of the black hole, the more radiation it emits.

CONCLUSION Blackholes do emit radiation. The small the size of the black hole the
