CRODAMOL AB is an emollient ester produced from Benzoic Acid and C12-15

Alcohols. CRODAMOL AB provides a cushion emollience with a lubricious feel, yet
has the elegance and desirable appeal of an ultrafine emollient. While its primary
uses are as an emollient, solvent and solubilizer, CRODAMOL AB offers formulators
the benefits of a truly multifunctional ingredient and is suitable for a variety of
applications in sun care, hair care, make-up, and toiletries, as well as in skin care.

As an emollient, CRODAMOL AB imparts a dry, lubricating emollience and confers a

non-greasy elegant feel on the skin. It is especially useful in reducing the
undesirable, oily feel of mineral oil and other similarly heavy oils. In doing so, it can
improve the feel characteristics and spreadability of any system in which these oils
are present. CRODAMOL AB is outstanding as a solvent for sunscreens, such as
Benzophenone-3 (UV-B) and Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane (UV-A) and forms
uniform films on the skin. CRODAMOL AB is extremely effective in solubilizing lipid
materials, even materials like volatile silicone that are difficult to solubilize. It is also
an excellent vehicle for perfumes and can be used as an extender or fixative without
altering the characteristics of the fragrance. CRODAMOL AB has uses as an anti-
tack agent in antiperspirant/deodorant sticks and as a wetting agent or auxiliary
suspending agent for water insoluble powders. In hair care products, CRODAMOL
AB provides conditioning effects that add lubricity and improve both wet and dry
combing.

Physical Characteristics
As supplied, CRODAMOL AB is a clear, oil soluble liquid that is readily emulsifiable
and easily formulated into most systems, including microemulsions gels. It is stable to
hydrolysis within a pH range of 2-12. CRODAMOL AB is expected to be low in
toxicity, non-irritating and noncomedogenic.

CRODAMOL AB Sunscreen SC-303

This sunscreen formula demonstrates the use of CRODAMOL AB as a solubilizer for
Benzophenone-3, a sunscreen that can be hard to incorporate. CRODAMOL AB
forms uniform films that are ideal for enhancing sunscreen performance. (Static
SPF=15/Waterproof SPF=14.5) The ester provides a cushiony emollience and leaves
a pleasing afterfeel on the skin.

PROCEDURE
Heat Part A to 75ºC. Premix ingredients of Part B and heat to 75ºC. Add Part C
ingredients to Part B and heat to 75ºC. Add Part B/C to Part A with mixing. Remove
heat and begin cooling. At 40ºC add Part D and mix until homogenous.
