 Our poetry has eternal love as its central theme. Shakespeare likens his romantic
partner to summer, the most exquisite time of year. His love for her and her beauty
will never fade, even though summer's beauty is fleeting.

 Sonnet 18 is devoted to praising a friend or lover, traditionally known as the "fair
youth."

Why is the sonnet so famous?


 Shakespeare's Sonnet 18 is a deserving winner since it touches on themes of mortality
and unfulfilled love while catching the attention of readers for generations to come. And
for its eloquent use of language and perfection of form.
