JUNIOR SAFETY OFFICER

A permanent vacancy is currently available for a junior Safety Officer with a well-established knowledge
surrounding safety files that includes MHSA legislation at our Secunda branch. Reporting to the Project
Manager, and the National SHEQ Manager, the junior Safety Officer will be responsible to coordinate all HSE
activities on various sites regarding the project that includes (but not limited to) compiling and maintaining
safety files, conduct site inspections, and assist the Supervisor with relevant HSE functions and duties on a
daily basis. As the junior Safety Officer, it is expected of you to have good administrative, time management
and communication skills as well as being detailed orientated and have an assertive behavior towards
deadlines.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

• Coordinate all relevant HSE activities as per MHSA legislative, Client and Proxa SA’s HSE system
requirements, including maintaining Safety files, on site.
• Assist with HSE compliance towards the Client’s Contractor Management system.
• Conduct HSE audits and inspections at various sites.
• Assist to ensure that all legal requirements are met at the sites.
• Report to the Project Manager and National SHEQ Manager, as well as to the Client, on HSE related
matters.

COMPETENCY PROFILE:

Related > 2 years’ experience as a junior Safety Officer / Safety Officer

Minimum
Experience within the Mining environment

Qualifications Minimum COMSOC 1 and COMSOC 2

General Essential Own transport with a relevant driver’s license and be locally
based in or around Secunda

• COMSOC 1 and COMSOC 2 with more than 2 years related experience as a junior Safety Officer / Safety
Officer within the Mining environment.
• Sound knowledge of Mining HSE systems and MHSA legislation.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, detailed orientated in nature with an assertive behavior
towards deadlines.
• Strong administrative skills, including Microsoft Office literate with the ability to work under pressure.
