The field of research has grown and evolved throughout the years to include a diverse

range of research types. Basic research or pure research focuses on theoretical concepts,
relying on observations, experimentations, and data collection to understand such concepts.
Applied research on the other hand, tries to make a connection between theoretical concepts
and practical applications, relying on problem-solving strategies such as practical experiments.
Conceptual research focuses on abstract theories and gives great importance to the
understanding of concepts and theories. Empirical research relies on real-world experience or
observation to come up with evidence for specific research questions or to test hypotheses.
Exploratory research focuses on the study of topics with little to no information, it is a qualitative
approach that uses a narrow selection of data to gather information. Explanatory research aims
to understand the underlying reasons why a certain phenomenon occurs. After taking a look at
each research type, we have determined that empirical research suits our research topic the
best. This decision is influenced by the nature of our topic as it requires us to gather tangible,
real-world data.
