Every ship shall be provided with:


1. VHF (Very High Frequency) radio installation of transmitting and receiving :
1.1 DSC (Digital Selective Calling) on the frequency 156.525 MHz (channel
70)
1.1 Radiotelephony on the frequencies 156.300 MHz (channel 6), 156.650
MHz (channel 13) and 156.800 MHz (channel 16);

1. A radio installation capable of maintaining a continous DSC watch on VHF


Channel 70 may be separate from, or combine

3. A search and rescue locating device capable of operating either in the 9


GHz
band or on frequencies dedicated for AIS

4. Receiver capable of receiving international NAVTEX (Navigational Telex)

broadcasts capable of transmitting a distress alert through the polar orbiting
satellite service operating in the 406 MHz band

5. Radio facility for reception of maritime safety information by the Inmarsat


enhanced group calling system

In addition to meeting the requirements of regulation 7, every ship engaged on voyages


beyond sea areas A1 and A2, but remaining within sea area A3 be provided with:
● Inmarsat ship earth station
● MF radio installation on frequency 2,187.5 kHz using DSC and 2,182 kHz using
radiotelephony
● radio installation capable of maintaining a continuous DSC watch on the frequency
2,187.5 kHz
● EPIRB satellite service on 406 MHz

General
All ships, irrespective of size, shall have:
1. An echo-sounding device, or other electronic means, to measure and display the available
depth of water; (Echo Sounder)
2. A 9 GHz radar, or other means, to determine and display the range and bearing of radar
transponders and of other surface craft, obstructions, buoys, shorelines and navigational
marks toassist in navigation and in collision avoidance; (Radar)
3. An electronic plotting aid, or other means, to plot electronically the range and bearing of
targetsto determine collision risk; (ARPA - APA)
4. Speed and distance measuring device, or other means, to indicate speed and distance
through the water (Speed Log)

5. nautical charts and nautical publications to plan and display the ship's route for the intended
voyage and to plot and monitor positions throughout the voyage; an electronic chart display and
information system (ECDIS) may be accepted as meeting the chart carriage requirements of this
subparagraph (ECDIS)

6. all ships of 300 gross tonnage and upwards engaged on international voyages and cargo
ships of 500 gross tonnage and upwards not engaged on international voyages and passenger
ships irrespective of size shall be fitted with an automatic identification system (AIS)

7. rudder, propeller, thrust, pitch and operational mode indicators, or other means, to determine
and display rudder angle, propeller revolutions, the force and direction of thrust (Rudder Angle
Indicator)

8. a properly adjusted standard magnetic compass, or other means, independent of any power
supply, to determine the ship's heading and display the reading at the main steering
position(Magnetic compas)

9. a receiver for a global navigation satellite system or a terrestrial radionavigation system, or


other means, suitable for use at all times throughout the intended voyage to establish and update
theship's position by automatic (GPS)

10. To assist in casualty investigations, ships, when engaged on international voyages, subject to
the provisions of regulation 1.4, shall be fitted with a voyage data recorder (VDR)

11. a gyro-compass, or other means, to determine and display their heading by shipborne non-
magnetic means, being clearly readable by the helmsman at the main steering position. (Gyro
Compas)

Emergency Lighting
2.1. For Period of 3 hour, Emergency lighting at every muster and embarkation station and over the sides
2.2. For Period of 18 hour:
● in all service and accommodation alleyways, stairways and exits, personnel lift cars and personnel lift
trunks
● in the machinery spaces and main generating stations including their control positions
● in all control stations, machinery control rooms, and at each main and emergency switchboard
● at all stowage positions for firemen’s outfits
● at the steering gear
● at the fire pump referred to in paragraph 2.5, at the sprinkler pump, if any, and at the emergency bilge pump,
if any, and at the starting positions of their motors
● in all cargo pump-rooms of tankers constructed on or after 1 July 2002

2.3 For a period of 18 h:
● the navigation lights and other lights required by the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea
in force
● VHF radio; MF radio; the ship earth station (Inmarsat C); MF/HF radio installation required
2.4 For a period of 18 h:
● all internal communication equipment as required in an emergency
● the shipborne navigational equipment as required by regulation V/12;* where such provision is unreasonable
or impracticable the Administration may waive this requirement for ships of less than 5,000 gross tonnage
● intermittent operation of the daylight signalling lamp, the ship’s whistle, the manually operated call points and
all internal signals that are required in an emergency;

Emergency Generator
Emergency Generator Set is one type of Emergency Source of Electrical Power.
There are some rules & regulations about this equipment in

● SOLAS statutory CHAPTER II-1 Part D Electrical installations regulation 43


(Emergency Source of Electrical Power in Cargo Ships), and
● BKI Class Vol IV 2019 Edition, Rules for Electrical Installation, Section 3-7
Emergency Generator
Those rules & regulations from SOLAS are :

● ESEP shall be located above the uppermost continuous deck and shall be
readily accessible from the open deck.
● Where the ESEP is generator, it shall be driven by a suitable prime mover with
an independent supply of fuel, having a flashpoint of not less than 43°C.
● started automatically upon failure of the electrical supply from the main
source of electrical power and shall be automatically connected to the
emergency switchboard
● provided with a transitional source of emergency electrical power
● automatically started and supplying the required load as quickly as is safe
and practicable subject to a maximum of 45 s.
