CONDITIONAL SENTENCES

They always have two parts:


• If + subject + verb, subject + verb.

• Subject + verb + if + subject + verb.

There are three types of conditional sentences:

➢ First conditional: If + subject + present simple, subject +


future

These sentences are used to express probable actions.

If you do your homework every day, you will pass the subject.

They will go to the beach if the weather is sunny.

➢ Second conditional: If + subject + past simple, subject +


conditional (would + infinitive.)

These sentences are used to express improbable actions or


unreal situations.

If I won the lottery, I would buy a big car.

She would earn a lot of money if she worked in a bank.

➢ Third conditional: If + subject + past perfect, subject +


perfect conditional (would have + past participle.)

These sentences are used to express past events which didn´t


happen.

If he had scored, they would have won the match.

She would have passed the exam if she had studied more.
