learners to come up with 3 figures of 16 counts. Let them do this in 5
minutes.
3. Let each column or group present their output. While a group is
presenting, the rest of the groups shall sit and observe until all groups
have already performed.

o Obtain heart rate after the activity.

* HR Log

3. Analysis Gather learners in column formation and sit in an Indian Sitting position
facing front.
Ask them the following questions:

 How does it feel coming up with your own festival routine?

 Was it hard or easy? Why?
 What should one know and do to come up with an easier festival
dance routine?

ARM POSITIONS USED IN PRACTICE STEPS
1. Hands-on waist.
2. Hands holding skirt.
3. One hand on the waist and the other holding a skirt or dress.
4. One hand on the waist or holding a skirt and the other raised overhead.
5. Arms in first, second, third, fourth, or fifth position or their combination with kumintang.

7. One arm in reverse “T” position and the other bent forward at shoulder level.
8. Arms in lateral positions, moving from side to side.
9. Arms in lateral position with forearm turn.
10. Arms in fifth position moving side to side.
11. Arms in hayon-hayon position - one forearm bent in front at waist level and the other bent
behind the body at waist level also.
12. arms in forward-bend position with forearm turn alternately.
Suggestion for making Dance-step Combination
1. Select the music to be used – 3/4, 2/4, 3/8, 6/8, or 4/4, etc. Mention the manner of counting
per measure if necessary as ct. 1, 2; 1, and, 2; or 1,2, 3 to a measure.
2. Decide on the kind of formation – single circle all facing in, clockwise or counterclockwise;
long open formation partners facing each other or facing front; square; double circle facing
clockwise, counterclockwise, facing in, or facing each other, etc.
3. Select the steps that will suit the music. For simple combinations, only two or three steps may
be used in one figure of sixteen or thirty-two measures. Combine steps using the same kind of
music and tempo.
4. Decide on the number of measures to be used in each figure – 8, 16, or 32 measures.
5. Proceed to write the combination by:
a. Mentioning which foot to start with or to use – L or R.
b. Giving the number of dance steps to be taken – 2, 4, 6, or 8 change steps.
c. Giving the direction to be taken – forward, backward, sideward right or left, clockwise, or
counterclockwise, etc.
d. Specifying in the arm movements or position if necessary – arms in lateral position
moving sideward right and left, arms in hayon-hayon, or hands-on waist, etc.
e. Writing the instruction (movements) part by part – (a), (b), (c), etc.
f. Writing the number of measures to be used after each part at the right side as
………………………………………………………………………………………………
…………………………………. 4 M
Note:
1. Numbers 1 and 2 may be interchanged.
2. If a particular piece is selected, write the part of the music used for each figure – A, B, C,
etc.
3. It is better to change the kind of step or direction of movement by following the phrases
of music.
EXAMPLES:
Dance-Step combination One
MUSIC: 2/4 time. Count 1,2 or 1, and 2 to a measure.
FORMATION: long open, partners facing each other about six feet apart.
I
(a) Starting with the R foot, take two change steps forward to meet at the center. Arms in lateral
position moving sideward right and left
…………………………………………………………………………….2 M
(b) Four touch steps in front, R and L alternately. Hands-on
waist…………………………………………… 4 M
(c) Repeat (a) moving backward to proper
places…………………………………………………………………...2 M
(d) Repeat all (a-c)
…………………………………………………………………………………………………
………………..8 M
II
Face front.
(a) Starting with R foot, take four close steps forward. Hands-on
waist………………………………… 4 M
(b) Four bleking steps, R and L alternately. Hands as in (a)
………………………………………………….. 4 M
(c) Repeat all, moving backward in (a)
……………………………………………………………………………………8 M
