SEEKING FORGIVENESS
FOR SELF-WRONGING

Background: When Adam and Hawwa resided in Paradise, they lived in a state of bliss,
untouched by the worries and toils of worldly life. However, their tranquility was
disrupted when they were deceived by Satan and ate from the forbidden tree, an act
that led to a dramatic change in their existence. Upon eating from the tree, the light
that covered their private parts vanished, revealing their nakedness to each other. This
was a stark reminder of their disobedience and its immediate consequence. This du'a
was their immediate response to their wrongdoing, recognizing their transgression
against themselves and their utter need for Allah’s forgiveness and mercy. It symbolizes
the human condition of falling into error and the importance of turning to Allah with a
sincere request for forgiveness

Recommended Times for Supplication:

When one realizes a personal mistake or sin and seeks Allah's forgiveness and
mercy
During periods of introspection, recognizing one's faults and shortcomings, and
asking for Allah's guidance and mercy
Specifically in acts of repentance, such as during prayers, seeking to return to the
path of righteousness and to be spared from the loss in the Hereafter

SEEKING FORGIVENESS

‫َرّبَنا َظ َلْمَنٓا َأنُفَسَنا َوِإن ّلْم َتْغِفْر َلَنا َوَتْرَحْمَنا َلَنُكوَنّن ِمَن ٱْلَخٰـِسِريَن‬
rabbanā ẓhalamnā anfusanā wa in lam taghfir lanā wa tarḥamnā
lanakūnanna min al-khāsirīn

Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us

and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers

Surah al-A’raf 23

represented in the context of Prophet Adam and Hawwa, who implored Allah for a

the teachings of Allah. This du'a is a heartfelt plea for the gift of righteous progeny, a
blessing that is cherished and valued immensely. It also signifies the commitment of
the parents to be grateful to Allah for this immense blessing, understanding that every
child is a trust from Allah and a means to carry forward the legacy of faith

Recommended Times for Supplication:

By couples who are aspiring to have children, seeking from Allah a righteous and
healthy offspring
In moments of reflection on the responsibility of parenthood, asking for Allah’s help
in raising children who are spiritually and morally upright
As a prayer of gratitude for the blessing of children, acknowledging that they are a
trust from Allah

‫َلِئْن َءاَتْيَتَنا َصٰـِلًۭحا ّلَنُكوَنّن ِمَن ٱلّشٰـِكِريَن‬

la’in ātaytanā ṣāliḥan lanakūnanna min ash-shākirīn

If You should give us a good [child], we will surely be among the

grateful

DIVINE BLESSINGS
IN TIMES OF NEED

Background: This du'a was made by Prophet Musa during his journey to Madyan after
fleeing from Egypt. Upon his arrival at the well of Madyan, Prophet Musa assisted two
women who were struggling to water their flock amidst a crowd of shepherds, who
were all men. After helping them, he withdrew to a shade and made this supplication to
Allah, expressing his dire need for any good that Allah might bestow upon him. At this
moment, Prophet Musa was in a vulnerable state: he was a fugitive in a foreign land,
without support or resources. His plea to Allah was a humble acknowledgment of his
dependence on divine assistance and a request for sustenance and guidance in his
time of need

Recommended Times for Supplication:

In times of hardship or uncertainty, when one feels the need for divine support and
provision
When starting a new phase of life, such as moving to a new place or beginning a
new job, to ask for Allah’s blessings and guidance
After performing an act of kindness or service, as a prayer for blessings and
goodness in return
In moments of loneliness or isolation, to seek comfort and sustenance from Allah

‫َرِّب ِإِّنى ِلَمٓا َأنَزْلَت ِإَلّى ِمْن َخْيٍۢر َفِقيٌۭر‬

rabbī innī limā anzalta ilayya min khayrin faqīr

My Lord, indeed I am, for whatever good You would send down to me,
in need
