Introduction/Activating/Launch Strategies

● This week, we are going to be learning all about the weather!

● The teacher will give students the pre-test to take.
● The teacher will read each question to the students and give them adequate amounts of
time to answer each question.
Development/Teaching Approaches

● Today, we are going to read a story called All About Weather by Huda Harajli.
● This book will tell us more about the weather outside that we see everyday.
● Why is knowing about the weather important? Turn and talk to a partner.
○ The teacher will take three share outs.
● It is important to know about the weather because then we will be aware of what it will
be like outside that day and what we should wear.
● The teacher will read the story to the students.
● Now that we read this story about weather, I want to create a chart about What I
already know”. After I teach all these weather lessons, we will complete a “What I
learned” side of the chart.
● The teacher will call on students to describe what they already know to write on the
class anchor chart.
○ This will give the teacher a basis as to what the students already know about the
weather to know what really needs to be focused on for future lessons.
● After the anchor chart is completed, it will be hung up in the room for the students to
see for the remainder of the unit.
● The teacher will call on a student to pass out the daily weather journals.
● Students will write their name and number on the front of them.
● These will be used for you to write down and draw the weather outside to get a better
understanding of it.
● Each day, we will spend 5 minutes at the beginning of science class to journal the
weather.
● Since our science time is right after recess, this makes it easy for us to remember the
weather outside.
● We can also look out these big windows to see the weather outside.
Closure/Summarizing Strategies

● After each class, I hope you learn even more about the weather outside and you can
connect it to the weather you have been seeing recently.
● It is so important to be aware of the weather to know how to dress and for many other
things as well.
Accommodations/Differentiation

● Enrichment
○ Students will be able to research the different weather they know about instead
of brainstorming with the class.
● Lower differentiation
○ Students who do not know much about weather will be pulled to the side and
given stories/videos about the basics of weather.

Reflective Response:
Report of Student Learning Target/Objectives Proficiency Levels

Almost every student had at least 50% of the test wrong except for one student who got a
70% on the text. This girl is almost always a high flier in every subject. For the daily weather
logs, they did not seem to understand how to do these even after explanation.

Remediation Plan (if applicable)

Next lesson, I am going to model the weather journals for them so they understand fully
what to do. The lessons after that, they will do their weather journals independently for five
minutes at the beginning of class.

Personal Reflection Questions

Since this is an introduction lesson, I think next time we do the daily weather logs, I am
going to show them exactly how to do these step by step. They did not seem to really understand
how to do it today, which is why I need to teach them more explicitly when doing new things
with them. I will take a small group with title one students for the weather log since they struggle
doing independent work.
