IV. PROCEDURES
TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENTS’ ACTIVITY
A. Preliminary Activities

1. Prayer
May I request everyone to please stand
for the prayer?
In the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the
Holy Spirit, Amen…
Please be seated.

2. Greetings
Good morning class!
How are you this morning?
Good Morning Sir!
We are very much fine, Sir!
3. Checking of attendance
Are there any absent today?
None Sir.
Very good!
Are you excited for our new lesson for
today?
Yes we are, Sir!
Wow, good to hear that.

4. Setting of Rules
Before we finally move on to our
lesson, let us first have an agreement. Is that
fine with you all?
Yes, sir!
I want you to keep all things that are
not needed to our discussion. Sit properly
and do not talk with your seatmates.

What will you do if you want to answer

to my questions?
We’ll just raise our hands silently,
sir.
Very good!

And what will you do if somebody

is talking here in front?
We should listen attentively, sir.
Bravo!

What about if we have group activities?

We have to cooperate and participate, sir.
So, do we have an agreement now?
Yes, sir!
B. Review
Before we proceed to our new lesson for
today, let us have a short recap about our
lesson last week.

Do you still remember what was our

lesson last week?
Our was lesson last week is about transversal.
Very Good!
What is transversal?
Student vary answer:
Transversal is a line that intersect two or more
lines.
How many angles each line cut by the
transversal line?
Student possible answer:
4
What is corresponding angle?
(Student vary answer)
What is vertical angle?
(Student possible answer)
What is the two interior angle cut by
the transversal line?
Student possible answer:
Alternate interior angle and Consecutive interior
angle.
C. Motivation
I have here a set of picture, all you have
to do is to determine what part of basic
geometry terms you can see in the picture.
Give me undefined terms as you can see
the picture.

What do you think is our topic this

morning?
D. Presentation
Our topic for today is all about Parts and
Classification of a Polygon . In this lesson, you are
expected to;
a. define a polygon;
b. Illustrate the different parts of a polygon;
E. Discussion
Polygon
-is a union of non-collinear segments(the
sides)
-the side on a plane that meet at their
endpoints, (the vertices), so that each endpoint
(vertex) is contained by exactly two segments
(sides).

The word “polygon” comes from the Greek

words “poly”, which means “many,” and “gon,”
which means “angles.”

Polygons are named by writing their

consecutive vertices in order, such as ABCDE or
AEDCB or CDEAB or CBAED for the figure on
the right.

Example:
Polygon has many sides
Triangle 3
Quadrilateral 4
Pentagon 5
Hexagon 6
Heptagon 7
Octagon 8
Nonagon 9
Decagon 10
Undecagon 11
Dodecagon 12

Polygon separates a plane into three sets of

points
1. the polygon itself,
2. points in the interior (inside) of the polygon,
3. and points in the exterior (outside) of the
polygon.

Consider the following sets of polygons:

SET A

SET B

3 parts of polygon
 Sides
 Vertices
 Angle

Consecutive vertices
-are vertices on the same side of the polygon.

Consecutive sides
- are sides that have a common vertex.

A diagonal
- is a segment joining non-consecutive vertices.

Student possible answer:

Example. 1. Polygon
2. Not-polygon
3. Polygon
4. Not-polygon
5. Not-polygon

In the polygon ABCDE, some consecutive vertices

are A and B, B and C. Some consecutive sides are
AE and ED ; AB and BC Some diagonals are AC
and AD .

Planar points
- A points inside the plane.

F. Application
Oral recitation. I will call a random students to
identify the two following choices either polygon
or not-polygon.

1.
Student possible answer:
-is a union of non-collinear segments(the
sides), the side on a plane that meet at their
endpoints, (the vertices), so that each endpoint
2.
(vertex) is contained by exactly two segments
(sides).

3. Students possible answer:

 Many

Students possible answer:

 Angle

4. Students possible answer:

1. Sides
2. Vertices
3. Angle

Students possible answer:

5. Planar points a points inside the plane.

Students vary answer:

 are vertices on the same side of the polygon.
G. Generalization
Again, what do you mean by polygon? Students vary answer:
 are sides that have a common vertex.

Students vary answer:

 is a segment joining non-consecutive
‘ Poly’ which means? vertices.

‘Gon’ which means? Students vary answer:

Consecutive vertices is a points on a same side
of polygon, and consecutive sides is a side have
What are the 3 parts of polygon?
common vertex.

What do you mean by planar points?

Students possible answer:

What is consecutive vertices? 1. TRUE
2. FALSE
3. FALSE
What is consecutive sides? 4. TRUE
5. FALSE
6. FALSE
7. TRUE
8. FALSE
What what do you mean by diagonal on a plane?
9. TRUE
10. FALSE

What are the difference between consecutive

vertices and consecutive side?

H. Evaluation
Get your quiz notebook for your short quiz.
Activty 1. True of False
Direction: Write T if the statements is true, and
write F if the statements is false.

1. Polygon is a union of non-collinear

segments(the sides) on a plane that meet at their
endpoints, (the vertices), so that each endpoint
(vertex) is contained by exactly two segments
(sides).
2. A triangle has four side.
3. Planar points is a points in the exterior on the
plane.
4. In Greek word from the word ‘POLY’ means
many, and ‘GON’ means angle.
5. Hexagon has 8 sides.
6. Consecutive sides are sides has no common
endpoints.
7. Three parts of a polygon are sides, vertices, and
angle.
8. A polygon of triangle has 2 angle, 2points and 3
sides.
9. Nonagon has 9 sides.
10. Quadrilateral has 5 sides, 5 points and 5 angle.
