PROGRAM OF INSTRUCTION

TITLE: FIREARMS PROFICIENCY

RATIONALE:
Enhancement of knowledge and skills and experience is a continuous process for every member
in a uniformed service to gain mastery on specific skills. Considering that Personnel assigned in
jail facility deals with the lawless citizen and poses potential risk and danger to the community,
it is imperative that regular training and education is needed to equip with the needed
knowledge and skills. Uniformed Personnel carry their issued firearms and expected them to
have a familiarity/mastery in using it even under pressure. Safety and security is one of the
mission and every personnel must ensure the safety and security of the jail facility and defend
their self, its colleagues and Persons Deprived of Liberty for any untoward incidents.

1. OBJECTIVES:
a. To make the personnel of Lucena City District Jail Male Dorm be familiar in handling
and firing their issued firearms;

b. To review the fundamentals of pistol marksmanship;

c. To develop confidence, knowledge and skills required in firing his/her weapon and be
able to hit the desired target; and

d. To acquire mastery in firing the issued firearms.

2. NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS: 21 BJMP Personnel

3. DURATION: One (1) day

ORIENTATION
GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS Brief history, fundamentals of marksmanship,
gun safety rules, assembling and disassembling

OPERATION 8 cycles of operation

STOPPAGES AND MALFUNCTION Types of malfunction and its remedy, kinds of


firing malfunction, cleaning the weapon,
inspecting the pistol, safety lock test, grip
safety test, half cock position test,
disconnected test

AMMUNITION Classification and identification of ammunition

FUNDAMENTALS OF PISTOL MARKSMANSHIP Aiming, steady hold factor, phases of aiming,


sight picture, sight alignment, proper
placement of aiming point, errors in sight
alignment, stable position, breathing control,
relaxation, trigger control, factors on attaining
stable position, stance position, grip,
maximum control of the weapon, types of
stances, five points of contract, function of the
other parts of the shooting arms, types of
trigger control, basic firing position, flinching,
establishing a system, calling the shot

SAFETY RANGE PROCEDURE Basic rules of gun safety, do’s and don’ts on
firing range

LIVE FIRING 5, 7 and 10 meters target
