CAPI 1:

Story of the Door

Gabriel John Utterson, a lawyer, has been a close loyal friend of Jekyll and Lanyon for
many years.

Utterson, a man like a serious man of few words but kind. He was austere and calmed his
taste for good wine with gin, he had not set foot in the theater 20 years ago. His friends
were long-time acquaintances or people from his family.

Utterson and Einfield walk around one Sunday until they find a one-door, windowless and
worn-out building. Einfield says that at 3 in the morning he saw a man and a girl (8 or 10
years old). They both collided and the girl fell but the man trampled the girl and continued
on his way calmly. He describes the man as a juggernaut. He grabbed the man and took
him to the girl who was crying and a group of people (the girl's family) had gathered around
her to help her, the doctor was checking her but the man said she was fine. They had sent
her to look for a doctor. They were terrified by the man's gaze and informed him that his
reputation and that of his acquaintances was destroyed. He was asked for £100
compensation. The man enters that door of the building and takes out 10 pounds in gold
and a cheque with another person's name. Einfield thought it was a fraud but they decided
to wait until dawn and check the authenticity of the check. Turns out it was genuine.

Einfield says the person who signed the check is an honorable man unlike the man who
stomped on the girl. The man's name was Hyde and from time to time he saw him enter
that house. He describes it as someone with strange and unpleasant appearance. Utterson
and Einfield decide not to talk about the matter again

Capi 1: Utterson y Einfield pasean un domingo hasta encontrar un edificio sin ventanas y
desgastado, Einfield cuenta que a las 3 de la madrugada vio a un hombre y a una niña (8 o
10 años). Ambos se toparon y la niña cayo pero el hombre pisoteo a la niña y siguió su
camino tranquilamente. Describe al hombre como un juggernaut. Agarro al hombre y lo
llevo donde la niña que estaba llorando y un grupo de gente (familia de la niña) se había
reunido alrededor para ayudarla, el médico la estaba revisando pero el hombre decía que
ella estaba bien. La habían mandado a buscar un médico. Les aterraba la mirada del
hombre y le informaron que su reputación y la de sus conocidos estaba destruida. Le
pidieron una indemnización de 100 libras esterlinas. El hombre entra a esa puerta del
edificio y saca 10 libras y un cheque con el nombre de otra persona. Einfield pensó que era
un fraude pero decidieron esperar a que amanezca y comprobaran la autenticidad del
cheque. Resulta que era genuino.

Einfield dice que la persona que firmo el cheque es un hombre honorable a diferencia del
hombre que pisoteo a la niña. El hombre se llamaba Hyde y de vez en cuando lo veía
entrar en esa casa. Describe como alguien con apariencia extraña y desagradable.
Utterson y Einfield deciden no volver hablar del asunto

the story opens with Mr. Utterson, a reserved lawyer in Victorian London, taking
his regular Sunday walk with his friend, Mr. Enfield. As they stroll through the
city, they pass by a peculiar-looking door, which prompts Enfield to recount a
disturbing incident that occurred there.

Enfield tells Utterson about a man named Mr. Hyde, who once trampled a
young girl and then callously offered compensation to her family to keep the
incident quiet. Enfield describes Hyde as a detestable and sinister figure, and his
behavior shocks Utterson.

Intrigued by the story, Utterson becomes increasingly preoccupied with the

enigma of Mr. Hyde, especially when he learns that Hyde is the beneficiary of
Dr. Jekyll's will. Despite Utterson's attempts to uncover the truth about Jekyll's
relationship with Hyde, Jekyll remains evasive and refuses to discuss the matter.

la historia comienza con el Sr. Utterson, un abogado reservado del Londres

victoriano, dando su habitual paseo dominical con su amigo, el señor Enfield.
Mientras pasean por la ciudad, pasan junto a una puerta de aspecto peculiar, lo
que lleva a Enfield a contar un incidente inquietante que ocurrió allí.

Enfield le cuenta a Utterson sobre un hombre llamado Sr. Hyde, que una vez
pisoteó a una niña y luego ofreció cruelmente una compensación a su familia
para mantener el incidente en secreto. Enfield describe a Hyde como una figura
detestable y siniestra, y su comportamiento sorprende a Utterson.

Intrigado por la historia, Utterson se preocupa cada vez más por el enigma del
Sr. Hyde, especialmente cuando descubre que Hyde es el beneficiario del

Capi 2: SEARCH FOR MR. HYDE

On Sunday nights Utterson is at home and used to read a book until the church bell rang 12.
But this time he decided to examine The will of Dr. Jekyll (Ph.D., Ph.D. in Criminal and Civil Law,
Member of real society, etc.). The will stated that if he died or disappeared for more than 3
months, all of his assets would pass to his friend Edward Hyde. Utterson kept the will and
headed to Cavendish Square, a neighborhood of doctors, where he would meet his friend Dr.
Lanyon. They were old friends and fellow students. They talk about Henry Jekyll and Lanyon
tells him that he sees him very rarely. He says that 10 years ago the doctor began to go astray
with his scientific affairs. Utterson asks if he knows Hyde, which Lanyon denies ever having
heard of. Utterson returned to his house and could not sleep. He was very curious about Hyde,
especially to know his features and to know why Jekyll had preferences for Hyde. From that day
Utterson began to watch that door whenever possible between his schedules (both in the
morning, afternoon and night).

Mr. Hyde and Mr. Seek

One night after 10, he saw the man taking out the key to enter that door, but Utterson stopped
him and asked him to please see his face. Hyde looks at him and then asks how he recognized
him and Utterson says that an acquaintance described him. He describes him as pale and short,
but he doesn't know how to explain how unpleasant it is to see him.
Utterson goes to Jekyll's residence and is greeted by the servant Poole, but the doctor is not
there. Utterson begins to ask about Hyde and the butler informs him that he only comes and
goes through the laboratory. Utterson retires and fears that Hyde will find out about the will
and do something against Jekyll.

Los domingos en la noche Utterson está en su casa y solía leer algún libro hasta que la campana
de la iglesia diera las 12. Pero esa vez decidió examinar El testamento del doctor Jekyll (doctor
en medicina, doctor en derecho penal y civil, miembro de la sociedad real, etc). En el
testamento se decía que en caso de morir o desaparecer por más de 3 meses, todos sus bienes
pasaran a su amigo Edward Hyde. Utterson guardo el testamento y se dirigió a Cavendish
Square, un barrio de médicos, donde encontrar ia a su amigo dr. Lanyon. Eran viejos amigos y
compañeros de estudio. Hablan de Henry Jekyll y Lanyon le dice que lo ve muy pocas veces.
Dice que hace 10 años el doctor comenzó a descarriarse con sus asuntos científicos. Utterson
pregunta si conoce a Hyde, el cual Lanyon niega haber escuchado de él. Utterson regresó a su
casa y no pudo dormir, sentía mucha curiosidad por Hyde, sobretodo por conocer sus rasgos y
saber por qué razón Jekyll tenía preferencias por Hyde. Desde ese día Utterson comenzó a
vigilar esa puerta cada vez que le era posible entre sus horarios (tanto en la mañana, tarde y
noche).

Señor Hyde y señor ''Seek"

Una noche después de las 10, vió al hombre sacando la llave con la intención de entrar a esa
puerta pero Utterson lo detuvo y le pidió de favor verlo a la cara. Hyde lo mira y luego le
pregunta como lo reconoció y Utterson dice que un conocido lo describió. Lo describe como
pálido y de baja estatura, pero no sabe como explicar lo desagradable que resulta verlo.

Utterson va a la residencia de Jekyll y es recibido por el sirviente Poole, pero el doctor no está.
Utterson comienza a preguntar sobre Hyde y el mayordomo le informa que él solo entra y sale
por el laboratorio . Utterson se retira y teme que Hyde se entere de testamento y haga algo
contra Jekyll

Capi 3: Dr Jekyll was Quite at Ease

Jekyll ofrece una cena para sus amigos donde asiste Utterson, él se queda al final cuando todos
ya se marcharon. Utterson quiere hablar a Jekyll sobre su testamento y que no está de acuerdo
con su decisión que sea Hyde el heredero. Jekyll se incomoda. Utterson menciona que Hyde ha
hecho cosas horribles y quiere saber que le pasa al doctor para ayudarlo. Jekyll declina la oferta
y le pide no hablar más sobre este tema con él porque es un asunto personal que solo él puede
manejarlo. Jekyll le informa su interés por Hyde y le pide a Utterson ayudarlo cuando él
fallezca. Él acepta

Capi 3: Jekyll ofrece una cena para sus amigos donde asiste Utterson, él se queda al final

Chapter 4: THE CAREW MURDER CASE

after 1 year. In October a crime occurred. A maidservant witnessed during one night (11 o'clock
at night) how two men met (one gray-haired and the other short), the maid recognized Hyde
who once visited her master and how he lost control and hit the man. with the cane.

The cane had broken, the victim had no documents on him but a sealed letter addressed to
Utterson.

Utterson received the letter and went to recognize the body, it was Danvers Carew, his client
and member of Parliament. They showed him the broken cane and he identified it as the cane
he fixed for Jekyll a few years ago.

(9 a.m.) Utterson took the officer to the residence of Hyde (heir to a quarter of a million). An
old woman opened the door and informed them that Hyde was not there, he had left an hour
ago, and that he was a person who was always absent. He asked to see the house, the old
woman refused but when she found out that officer Newcomen was there, she knew that Hyde
was in trouble and let them in. Two of the rooms were disorganized as if they had been
desperately searching for something and they had burned something in the fireplace but they
found the checkbook that resisted the fire and behind the door half of the cane. They went to
the bank and found that the murderer's account had thousands of pounds sterling recorded.
They decided to stay at the bank and give a description of the man but he was a little-known
man who had not been photographed and had no known family. The maid had only seen him
twice. People couldn't give a detailed description.

después de 1 año. El 18 de octubre ocurrió un crimen. Una mujer fue testigo durante una
noche (11) como dos hombres se encuentran ( uno canoso y otro de baja estatura), la criada
reconoció a Hyde que alguna vez visito a su amo y como este perdía el control y golpeo al
hombre con el bastón.

El bastón se había quebrado, la víctima no llevaba documentos encima sino una carta sellada
dirigida a Utterson.

Utterson recibió la carta y fue a reconocer el cadaver, era Danvers Carew. Le mostraron el
bastón partido y lo identico como el bastón que arreglo para Jekyll hace unos años.

(9 a.m.) Utterson llevo al funcionario hacia la residencia de Hyde (heredero de un cuarto de

millón). Abrió la puerta una anciana y les informo que Hyde no estaba, habia salido hace una
hora, además que era una persona que siempre estaba ausentandose. Pidió ver la casa, la
anciana se negó pero al saber que estaba el inspector newcomen, supo que Hyde estaba en
problemas y los dejó entrar. En dos de las habitaciones estaban desordenadas como si
hubieran buscando algo desesperadamente y en la chimenea habían quemado algo pero
encontraron la chequera que resistio al fuego y detrás de la puerta la mitad del bastón. Fueron
al banco y comprobaron que la cuenta del asesino tenía registrado miles de libras esterlinas.
Decidieron quedarse en el banco y dar una descripción del hombre pero era un hombre poco
conocido que no había sido fotografiado y no tenía familia conocida. La criada solo lo había
visto dos veces. Las personas no podían dar una descripción detallada
Chapter 5: INCIDENT OF THE LETTER

Utterson went to Jekyll's house in the afternoon and is greeted by Poole (Jukyll's butler).
Utterson is taken to his laboratory and finds Jekyll sick and sitting near the fireplace. Utterson
asks him if he knows what happened and if he isn't hiding Hyde after what she did. Jekyll
mentioned to him that she had cut off contact with him and would never hurt anyone again.
Jekyll gives a letter from Hyde to Utterson where he mentions not to worry about him and that
he had means to escape. Jekyll claimed that Hyde pressured him to make the will clause.
Utterson leaves but first asks Poole who delivered the letter but the man tells him that they
only received letters in the mail.

He met Mr. Guest in his office, he was going to Jekyll's house on business and he was also a
graphologist. He asked her to examine the letter, noting that Hyde's handwriting was very
similar to Jekyll's. Utterson assumed that Jekyll forged the letter to save Hyde.

Utterson fue a la casa de Jekyll en la tarde y es recibido por Poole. Utterson es llevado hasta su
laboratorio y encuentra a Jekyll enfermo y sentado cerca de la chimenea. Utterson le pregunta
si sabe lo que ha ocurrido y sí no está escondiendo a hyde después de lo que que hizo. Jekyll le
mencionó que había cortado contacto con él y que nunca más haría daño a nadie. Jekyll le

medios para escapar. Jekyll afirmó que Hyde lo presionó para hacer la cláusula del testamento.
Utterson se retira pero antes le pregunta a Poole quien entregó la carta pero el hombre le dice
que solo recibieron cartas por correo.

Se encontró en su despacho con el señor Guest, él iba a casa de Jekyll por asuntos de negocios
y además era un grafólogo. Le pidió examinar la carta, notando que la letra del Hyde era muy
parecida al de Jekyll. Utterson supuso que Jekyll falsificó la carta para salvar a Hyde.

CHAPTER 6: Remarkable Incident of Dr Lanyon

Thousands of pounds were offered for Hyde, but nothing was known about him. Jekyll's life
improves, meeting often with his friends. But days after Utterson and Lanyon's last visit, Dr.
Jekyll went into seclusion again and did not receive anyone.

Utterson visited the lanyon and saw him quite emaciated, as if on the verge of death. Lanyon
asks Utterson not to talk about Dr. Jekyll again, since she wants nothing to do with him. Lanyon
falls ill and dies, Utterson receives an envelope with two sealed documents. One was instructed
to open when Lanyon died and was only to be read by Utterson, and the other was to open
when Jekyll died or disappeared. Jekyll did not leave his laboratory and Utterson stopped
insisting on his visit.

mejora, reuniendose a menudo con sus amigos. Pero días después de la última visita de

cae enfermo y muere, Utterson recibe un sobre suyo con dos documentos sellados. Una tenia
la instrucción de abrir cuando Lanyon falleciera y solo fuese leída por Utterson, y la otra tenía
que abrirse cuando Jekyll muera o desapareciera. Jekyll no salia de su laboratorio y poco a
poco Utterson dejo de insistir con su visita

CHAPTER 7: Incident at the Window

One Sunday Einfield and Utterson were walking and they came across that door again. Turns
out it was the back door to Jekyll's house. The place had three windows that faced the patio.
Utterson and Einfield enter the courtyard to see Jekyll through one of the windows. Utterson
sees Jekyll and invites him to walk with them, he declined the offer. Suddenly Jekyll's
expression changed to an expression of horror and he closed the window. Utterson and Einfield
were stunned.

Un domingo Einfield y Utterson paseaban y volvieron a toparse con esa puerta. Resulta que era
la puerta trasera de la casa de Jekyll. El lugar tenía tres ventanas que daban al patio. Utterson y
Einfield entran al patio para ver a Jekyll por una de las ventanas. Utterson ve a Jekyll y lo invita
a pasear con ellos, él declinó la oferta. De pronto la expresión de Jekyll cambio a una expresión
de espanto y cerró la ventana. Utterson y Einfield quedaron atonicos.

CHAPTER 8: THE LAST NIGHT

Poole goes to Utterson, informs him that Dr. Jekyll is still in custody but something terrible has
been happening for a week. He asks Utterson to come with him to Jekyll's house. All the
employees were gathered in one place and were afraid.

Poole and Utterson headed to the laboratory where Poole knocked on the door and reported
that Utterson wanted to see him. Utterson notices that the voice is not Jekyll's and Poole
suspects that the doctor has been murdered 8 days ago and someone is trying to impersonate
him. Furthermore, the person who lives there has been crying out for a drug and sent his
butler through paperwork to get that drug but he always returned it because he said it was not
pure. One night, Poole manages to see his master with a mask desperately looking for
something but when he realizes he fled back to his cabinet, but that thing was not his master
because he was short in stature, they came to the conclusion that it could be Hyde.

Then they forced the door and managed to enter, they found Hyde's body in the doctor's
clothing. Hyde had committed suicide with a substance (he smelled almonds _ cyanide).

They began searching for Jekyll's body without success. They returned to the room where
Hyde's body lay and examined the room where they found the drugs he requested and a large
envelope addressed to Utterson. When he opened it he found several documents. He
discovered that the will was in Utterson's name and not Hyde's. In the letter he asks her to read
the story that Lanyon sent him. Utterson returns to his office to read the documents

Poole acude con Utterson, le informa que el doctor Jekyll sigue recluido pero desde hace una
semana algo terrible estaba pasando. Le pide a Utterson que venga con él a la casa de Jekyll.
Todos los empleados estaban reunidos en un lugar y con miedo.

Poole y Utterson se dirigieron al laboratorio donde Poole tocó la puerta e informó que utterson
deseaba verlo. Utterson nota que la voz no es la de Jekyll y Poole sospecha que al doctor ha
sido asesinado hace 8 días y alguien está intentando suplantar su identidad. Además que la
persona que vive ahí ha estado pidiendo a gritos una droga y mandaba su mayordomo por
medio de papeles a conseguir esa drug pero siempre lo devolvía porque decía que no era pura.
Una noche, Poole logra ver a su amo con una máscara buscando desesperadamente algo pero
al darse cuenta él huyó de vuelta a su gabinete, pero esa cosa no era su amo porque era bajo
de estatura, llegaron a la conclusión que podría ser Hyde.

Luego forzaron la puerta y lograron entrar, encontraron el cuerpo de Hyde con la vestimenta
del doctor. Hyde se había suicidado con una sustancia (olía almendras _ cianuro).

Comenzaron a buscar el cadáver de Jekyll sin éxito. Volvieron al cuarto donde yacía el cadáver
de hyde y examinaron la habitación donde encontraron la droga que él pedía y un gran sobre
dirigido para utterson, al abrirlo encontró varios documentos. Descubrió que el testamento
estaba el nombre de utterson y ya no de Hyde. En la carta le pide que lea el relato que Lanyon
le hizo llegar. Utterson vuelve a su despacho para leer los documentos

CHAPTER 9: Dr Lanyon’s Narrative

Lanyon received a note from Dr. Henry Jekyll, strange attitude since they didn't do it very often.
The letter was a request from his friend to go to his house and pick up a package from the
closet and eventually deliver it to someone else. Lanyon, despite feeling that it was an
unreasonable idea, decided to comply with the request. The package contained information
from several experiments by Dr. jekyll to which Lanyon wondered why the importance of said
package. Later that day a person came to Lanyon's office to pick up the package. This person
was not to Lanyon's liking but he seemed to know what the package was for. After some
combinations of liquids that the package had, the man offered Lanyon a choice: to take the
chemicals away, or to drink the potion and have Lanyon witness a knowledge beyond anything.
Lanyon, who looked at him in disbelief, accepted that he took it there to find out what was the
reason for so much mystery with the package, then the little man drank the potion and he
transformed into Dr. Jekyll. After this revelation, Lanyon feels that he cannot sleep and that
terror follows him all-day

Lanyon recibio una carta del dr. Henry Jekyll, actitud extraña ya que ellos no lo hacian muy a
menudo. La carta era una peticion de su amigo para ir a su casa y recoger un paquete del
armario y eventualmente entregarselo a otra persona. Lanyon a pesar de sentir que era una
idea fuera de razon, decidio cumplir con el pedido. El paquete contenia informacion de varios
experimentos del dr. jekyll a lo cual Lanyon se preguntaba el porque de la importancia de dicho
paquete. Mas tarde ese mismo dia una persona fue al despacho de Lanyon para recoger el
paquete, esta persona no era del agrado visual de Lanyon pero parecia saber para que servia el
paquete. Luego de algunas combinaciones de liquidos que tenia el paquete el pequeño señor
le ofrecio a Lanyon una eleccion: irse de la casa con ese vaso con varios liquidos mezclados o
tomarlo ahi mismo y que Lanyon sea testigo de un saber mas alla de cualquier cosa. Lanyon
que lo miraba incredulo acepto que lo tomara ahi para saber cual era la razon de tanto misterio
con el paquete, entonces el pequeño hombre se tomo la pocima y este se transformo en lo que
el doctor jekyll llama como Mr. Hyde, tras esta revelacion Lanyon siente que no puede dormir y
que el terror lo persigue todo el dia

CHAPTER 10: Henry Jekyll’s Full Statement of the Case

It chronicles Jekyll's life, his privileged upbringing, and his internal struggles between his inner
desire and social pressures. He concluded that man is not just one person but two parts. He
wanted to separate it. Over time, he develops a way to release the evil side of himself through
scientific means and experiments on himself, at first he is somewhat afraid but at one point he
decides to take the potion he made and undergoes a painful transformation. Transforming into
Hyde, an evil man who did not respect these pressures. He again prepared a new mixture to
become Jekyll. Although he understands that what he does is morally wrong, Jekyll begins to
lead a double life, between Jekyll's pressures and Hyde's freedom, and with Hyde he felt
younger and more alive, unlike Jekyll, who was older. Everything was unleashed by the girl's
accident. She then opened a new account under the name Edward Hyde.

Over time he noticed that Hyde was increasing in stature, and feared that Hyde would begin to
take full control of his body. After Carew's death, Jekyll vows to lead a virtuous life, but Hyde
cannot be restrained. He prepared the potion again after two months. He started taking
potions every 6 hours and when he dozed or slept he would wake up like Hyde.

He ultimately accepts responsibility for the havoc he has caused and resolves to end his own
life rather than allow Hyde to continue his reign of terror unchecked.

Narra la vida de Jekyll, su educación privilegiada y sus luchas internas entre su deseo interno y
las presiones sociales. Concluyó que el hombre no es sólo una persona sino dos partes. Quería
separarlo. Con el tiempo, desarrolla una manera de liberar su lado malvado a través de medios
científicos y experimentos sobre sí mismo, al principio tiene algo de miedo pero en un
momento decide tomar la poción que hizo y sufre una dolorosa transformación.
Transformándose en Hyde, un hombre malvado que no respetaba estas presiones. Volvió a
preparar una nueva mezcla para convertirse en Jekyll. Aunque entiende que lo que hace está
moralmente mal, Jekyll comienza a llevar una doble vida, entre las presiones de Jekyll y la
libertad de Hyde, y con Hyde se sentía más joven y vivo, a diferencia de Jekyll, que era mayor.
Todo se desató por el accidente de la niña. Luego abrió una nueva cuenta con el nombre de
Edward Hyde.

Con el tiempo, notó que Hyde estaba aumentando de estatura y temió que Hyde comenzara a
tomar el control total de su cuerpo. Después de la muerte de Carew, Jekyll promete llevar una
vida virtuosa, pero Hyde no puede ser refrenado. Preparó la poción nuevamente después de
dos meses. Empezó a tomar pociones cada 6 horas y cuando dormitaba o dormía se
despertaba como Hyde.

En última instancia, acepta la responsabilidad por los estragos que ha causado y decide poner
fin a su propia vida en lugar de permitir que Hyde continúe su reinado de terror sin control.
