Welcome to Media and Information Literacy!

The Learning Activity Sheet is a product of the collaborative efforts of the

Schools Division of Iloilo City and DepEd Regional Office VI - Western Visayas
through the Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD). This is
developed to guide the learning facilitators (teachers, parents and responsible
adults) in helping the learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Basic Education
Curriculum.

The Learning Activity Sheet is self-directed instructional materials aimed to

guide the learners in accomplishing activities at their own pace and time using the
contextualized resources in the community. This will also assist the learners in
acquiring the lifelong learning skills, knowledge and attitudes for productivity and
employment.

For learning facilitator:

The Media & Information Literacy Activity Sheet will help you facilitate the
teaching-learning activities specified in each Most Essential Learning Competency
(MELC) with minimal or no face-to-face encounter between you and learner. This will
be made available to the learners with the references/links to ease the independent
learning.

For the learner:

The Media and Information Literacy Activity Sheet is developed to help

you continue learning even if you are not in school. This learning material provides
you with meaningful and engaging activities for independent learning. Being an
active learner, carefully read and understand the instructions then perform the
activities and answer the assessments. This will be returned to your facilitator on the
agreed schedule.

Describing how Communication is Influenced by Media and Information

I. Learning Competency (MELC)

Describe How Communication is Influenced by Media and Information

II. Background Information for Learners

What is the first thing that pops into your head when you think about
communicating using media? Is it Facebook? Email? or Twitter? These words
are just few of the many concepts that are currently in the limelight of
millennials’ unpredictable stage.

Aristotle described humans as social beings, which means that they

have an innate need to feel that they belong, and with the existence of social
media, it is easy to say that the need is being fulfilled. This could be the
reason why everyone is so earnest when it comes to using the current trends
in communication.

In fact, media and information play an important role as part of

communication. Rather than seeing how the media influenced someone’s
behavior and perceptions about communication, it is better to see how the
society recounts to the type of evolving media and most-used media in its
culture.

This is an example illustration on how communication is influenced by

media and information.

Remember:

There is no right or wrong way to communicate and/or adapt social media

language into our lives. However, we are all becoming engulfed in this new
world of communication due to the modern technology that we are currently
in. How our communication is being influenced and affected by these social
media platforms are all up to us. As communication and information travel
faster and faster, the world seems to get smaller and smaller. It is indeed, a
world full of complications, but proper communication with or without social
media is the key to a better understanding of information.
