Chapter 1

INTRODUCTION

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This study to investigate the impact of bullying in academic performance of grade 12

HUMSS in Mulanay Institute

Research Question

Specifically, this study seek to answer the following questions:

1. What effect does bullying have on student’s academic performance in grade 12?

2. What kind of bullying do grade 12 students experience in Mulanay Instiute?

3. What are the experiences of students about bullying in Mulanay Instiute?

Background on the study

Bullying is serious problem in schools. In schools, bullying occurs in all areas. It can occur

in nearly any part in or around the school building, hallways, bathrooms, classes that require

group work or after school activities. Bullying in school sometimes consist of a group of student

taking advantage of or isolating one student in particular and gaining the loyalty of bystander,

who in some cases to avoid becoming the next victims. School bullying is a widespread issue

that affects secondary school in three essential parts of their lives; psychologically, educationally

and professionally. Bullying is a sort if aggressive behavior against others such as verbal bay

calling nasty names, physical bay kicking; pushing or tripping up and social by everyone.

Academic achievement is the first aspect which influence bullying at school. Therefore bullied

children live within fear, self-blame feel weak and it affects their personality traits and self-

confidence, so this situation makes them unable to study well and they might hate going to

school. Both bullies and victim fell more negative about school, and present bullying may lead

to stress and depression. Bullying can lead to anxiety, low self-esteem, hopelessness and

isolation. Student miss lesson or are scared to attend school. They lose concentration when they

to attend. Some of the effects as long after the bullying.

Scope and delimitation

This study focuses on the Impact of bullying on academic performance of grade 12

students in Mulanay Institute. The grade 12 students will be the respondents of this study.

Significance of the study

This study will be beneficial to the municipal official, school personnel, parents, students

and other researcher.

This study is significant to the municipal officials for it helps them to construct strategies

and methods on how to lessen the cases of bullying.

School personnel. This study will give them a hint to improve their motivational an

teaching materials, techniques of methods and skills in open forum to students who really need

their guidance.

Parents. They will be aware about the kind of attitude their child is processing. It will

give them a hint on how they help and encourage their child to avoid bullying.

Students. This study encourage them to change their attitude towards other people. It

will serve as a medicine to cure the minds of every individual to become open minded about

the consequences of their action.

Researcher. The researcher in the near future ill make use of the result of our present

study. This study will serve as their basis and comparison to their future study.

Assumptions of the study

1. That the there some risk factors affecting bullying.

2. That the there are some risk factors affecting bullying.
