SPECIMEN SOURCE:
A) FNA thyroid (RIGHT)

B) FNA thyroid (LEFT)

SPECIMEN DESCRIPTION:
A) 8 slides in etoh container, 20 ml hemorrhagic saline fluid in specimen cup;

B) 8 slides in etoh container, 20 ml slt hemorrhagic saline fluid in specimen cup; tech assist

CYTOPREPARATION:
A) 8 SMEARS

B) 8 SMEARS

CYTOLOGIC IMPRESSION:
A) Right thyroid nodule - ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration BENIGN Favor benign follicular nodule.

B) Left thyroid nodule - ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration BENIGN Favor benign follicular nodule.

COMMENT:
A) 8 alcohol-fixed direct smears are received and subsequently Papanicolaou-stained. Slides contain adequate clusters
and sheets of follicular epithelium with generally small round nuclei in a background of blood and colloid. The overall
findings favor a benign follicular nodule.

B) 8 alcohol-fixed direct smears are received and subsequently Papanicolaou-stained. Slides contain borderline adequate
clusters of follicular epithelium with generally small round nuclei in a background of blood and colloid. Occasional
hemosiderin-laden macrophages are seen, indicating a cystic component. Rare Hurthle cells, small lymphocytes and
multinucleated giant cells are also present. The overall findings favor a benign follicular nodule.

PERTINENT CLINICAL DATA AND CLINICAL DIAGNOSIS:


Patient with multiple thyroid nodules: right 3.5 x 1.9 x 2.8 cm and left 1.1 x 1.5 x 1.0 cm; history of Grave's disease status
post iodine ablation.
