Series of documents
The user manual for the work station is part of a series of documents.
• KiSoft One User Manual
• Manufacturer's documentation
Users
This user manual has been compiled for the warehouse operating company
as well as for qualified and trained personnel responsible for the work at the
work station.
Throughout this user manual it is assumed that the users have basic knowl-
edge of application programmes and the use of a touch screen.

B Intended use
1 Scope of application
There are two different work processes carried out at the Sort & Pack work sta-
tion: sorting and packing. During sorting, articles are removed from a source
load unit and placed into the slots of the Sort & Pack rack. During packing, arti-
cles are taken from the slots and packed into target load unit.
Additionally in the sort area, a load unit inventory can be carried out and load
units relocated.
The programme guides the user through displays on the user interface and
also provides support with troubleshooting.
2 Users
Only personnel who have been authorized by the operating company and
instructed on the procedures may work at the work station.
User Manual
User Manual
The work station comprises a sort area and two pack areas. A Sort & Pack
rack is the interface between the two areas. The design of the Sort & Pack rack
(e.g. static rack, rolling rack) as well as the number of rack compartments is
warehouse-specific.
2 Safety devices
Emergency stop (optional)
At least one emergency stop button is located in the work station area. When
an emergency stop button is activated, all conveyor lines in the work station
area are stopped.
The procedure for acknowledging an emergency stop varies between ware-
houses. For further information on the emergency stop see the Emergency
stop concept – system manual.

3 Sort area
The following illustration provides an overview of the sort area.
To request a load unit to process, the sorter must press the button to request
a load unit. Once the button has been pressed, the feeding conveyor conveys
a load unit to the work station. The sorter must take the load unit from the feed-
ing conveyor and put it on the work table to process it. Completely processed
load units must be placed onto the take-away conveyor. The take-away con-
veyor conveys the load units from the work station automatically.
The sorter can perform various tasks for a load unit. During picking, the sorter
takes articles from a load unit and places them in a slot. During inventory, the
sorter checks the stock in a load unit. During relocation, the sorter relocates
load units.
User Manual
At the work table, there is an RFID reader to read articles and a handheld
scanner to read load units.
4 Rack
Layout
The following illustration provides an overview of the rack.
The rack connects the sort side to the pack side. The rack consists of slots.
The sorter places the articles from the load units into the slots of the racks. The
packer takes the articles out of the slots an packs them in load units.
Pick-to-Light (PtL)
A PtL panel is located above or below each rack row. Each rack compartment
is assigned a PtL indicator unit by means of the PtL panels. Each PtL indicator
unit is comprised of a light fixture and a button.
User Manual
Element Function
The PtL guides the user to the slot that should be processed.
5 Pack area
The following illustration provides an overview of the pack area.
User Manual
The pack area consists of a work table and a take-away conveyor for load
units. The packer must remove the articles from the rack and pack them in a
load unit.
The target load units must be manually conveyed to the work station on a cart.
The warehouse operating company is responsible for providing the cart for the
target load units.
If required, the packer must scan articles using the RFID reader or handheld
scanner. Certain articles must be weighed on the scale at the work table
before being packed.
Several printers are on the work table for printing documents. The packer
either applies the documents to the article or places them in a load unit. A com-
pletely processed load unit must be provided with a security seal.
6 Reading device
In a standard system, there is a RFID reader and a handheld scanner in the
sort area and in the pack area. The RFID reader is used to read codes on arti-
cles. The handheld scanner is used to read optical codes of load units.
7 Printers
One or more printers are located in the sort and pack area for printing docu-
ments.
8 Computers
In a standard system, there is at least one computer in the sort area and one
in the pack area. Each computer is equipped with a touch screen. The com-
puter is used to access the KiSoft One GUI.
The programme provides the following functions:
• User guidance
• Entering optical codes (alternative to the reading device)
• Troubleshooting support
Input devices for a computer include an optional keyboard and a mouse.
User Manual
D System control
The following schema illustrates the standard communication interfaces of the
work station. Optional components such as keyboard and mouse are not
included in the schema.
The touch screen is connected to KiSoft One through the computer. The user
interface displayed on the touch screens is part of the KiSoft One GUI. The
work station receives the order data from KiSoft One.
User Manual
Important
Improper configuration of the programme can cause
malfunction.
In the event of problems with the station PC or with the
programme at the work station: Contact KNAPP.
2 Keyboard
The [On-screen keyboard] button in the title bar calls up the on-screen key-
board. The on-screen keyboard also opens optionally after an entry field is
selected.
The keys are operated in the same way as a normal keyboard. The entered
values are saved after the <ENTER> key is pressed.
User Manual
2 Requirements
The following requirements must be met to work at the work station:
• Computer is ready for operation
• Connection to KiSoft One is active
• Programme on computer is started
• RFID reader is ready for operation
3 Preparation
To begin working at the work station, the computer and the touch screen must
be switched on. No further preparation is necessary. The warehouse operat-
ing company is responsible for providing work material at the work station.
User Manual
Operational readiness
The programme is ready for operation when the following conditions have
been fulfilled:
• KiSoft Navigator was correctly started
• Connections to all periphery components are intact
• Connection to KiSoft One is intact
User Manual
Note
The user name and password must be entered in full with correct
uppercase and lowercase characters. The user name and password
are case-sensitive.
Logging out
Note
The user must always log out when they have completed the work at
the work station or when they take a break, in order to prevent the
station from being used by unauthorized persons.
The user can log out of the work station if there is no load unit en route to the
work station. Before the user can log out, the user must select the [Lock sta-
tion] button in the title bar.
Once the station is locked, no further load units are conveyed to the work sta-
tion. Once all the load units that have already been conveyed to the work sta-
tion have been processed, the user can log out of the work station.
User Manual
The [Log out] button in the title bare is only active if it is possible to log out.

2 Standard process
In the pack area, articles are removed from the rack compartments and
packed in target load units. The target load units are conveyed to the work sta-
tion on a cart. The warehouse operating company is responsible for providing
the cart for the target load units to the work station.
The articles for the target load unit can be distributed across several slots. In
this case, the Pick-to-Light indicator units simultaneously mark the slots for
removing articles.

User interface prompts user to scan a load unit
Note
If there is no order ready for packing, the user interface displays the
message "Wait for order".
User Manual
(3) Remove articles from slot and press the Pick-to-Light to confirm action
Note
All articles must always be removed from the rack compartment. The
PtL may only be pressed when the rack compartment is empty.
Note
Optionally, articles from an "industrial carton" must also be packed.
In this case, these articles must also be scanned.
Note
If only one article of a pair article (e.g. earrings) must be packed, the
user interface displays the number "1". In this case, only one pair
article is packed. After packing an article, the user interface prompts
to scan a load unit for the second pair article and to pack this article
in it. The article must be processed further according to the instruc-
tions of the warehouse operating company.
Note
Optionally, the system can instruct to print one or more "price tags".
The printing and packing into the load unit of "price tags" is not
guided from the user interface, and lies within the responsibility of
the warehouse operating company.
