一、關係代名詞
(一)「關係代名詞」有「代名詞」與「連接詞」的功能：代替「主要子句」中的「先行詞」，並連接
「主要子句」與「形容詞子句」。
(二) 「先行詞」為關係代名詞所代替的主詞。
例：The boy won first place in the contest.
The boy is talking to my sister.
 The boy who / that is talking to my sister won first place in the contest.
（現在正在跟我姊姊講話的男孩贏得比賽的第一名。）
【說明】關係子句裡的 who 代替 the boy 作關係子句的主詞
(三) 關係代名詞有：
先行詞 主格 所有格 受格
人 who / that whose who / whom / that
物 / 動物 which / that whose which / that
人 + 物 / 動物 that X that

二、關係子句
關係代名詞所引導的子句叫做「關係子句」
。關係子句有形容詞的性質，又稱為「形容詞子句」
用來修飾先行詞。關係子句的位置通常在句子的中間或句尾。
例：The book is thick.
The book is on the table.
 The book which / that is on the table is thick.（那本很厚的書在桌上。）
I love the book.
The book is on the table.
 Ilove the table which / that is on the table.（我喜愛在桌上的那本書。）

三、關係代名詞當主格用

(一) 關係子句缺乏主詞，且關係代名詞後接動詞，動詞的單複數須與先行詞一致。

例：This is the man who sends me flowers every day.（這位就是每天送我花的男人。）

(二) 句型：
1. 彗星型
 【主要子句】S. + V. + O. / 補語（人） who / that＋V...【形容詞子句】

【主要子句】S. + V. + O. / 補語（物） which / that＋V...【形容詞子句】

例：
Jack likes the girl who / that has a sweet voice.
David used the new plan which / that could
save a lot of money.
【說明】這裡的關係代名詞 who, which, that，代替前面的先行詞 the girl, the new plan，
當主詞用，關係代名詞 who, which, that 不可以省略。

The store which / that sells a lot of cookies is
closed on Monday.
【補充】複合名詞，如：someone, somebody, everyone, everything, anything, anyone,
something 等當先行詞時，關係代名詞不可用 who 或 which，要用 that。
例：She is someone that we are looking for.（她是我們正在尋找的人。）
