REACTION PAPER IN EMERGING NATIONALISM RIZAL

ALOYAN, DOMINIC ANGELO, R. DIET - 3J MECHANICAL

When we say nationalism, it is the unconditional love for our

country and identifying ourselves as a part of the certain place
by supporting and raising our flag. Through believing on what
our country can do, to support, recognize and be proud of our
ethnicity and culture that represents our country, Philippines.
I was born and raised in the Philippines and throughout the
years, I have seen the changes in the attitudes, practices,
culture, and beliefs of the Filipinos. The world is continuously
evolving, and the modernization is spreading across the world.
Each one of us have the duty and responsibility to fulfill that
most of us already forgotten about it and even these changes
occur, there are still ways to show the respect and love for our
country.

REACTION PAPER IN EL FILIBUSTERISMO

ALOYAN, DOMINIC ANGELO, R. DIET- 3J MECHANICAL

The discussion tackled about one of DR. Jose Rizal’s novel

entitled “El Filibusterismo” which can be translated as “The
Reign of Greed” in English. It is the second novel and is a
sequel of Rizal’s Noli Me Tangere. This novel was dedicated to
the three martyred priests, the GomBurZa, who were
executed. This novel took 3 years to be finally completed. Just
like from his first novel, the “Noli Me Tangere”, the plot and
story of the novel was still centered to the criticisms of the
abuse and corruption which the Spanish government done to
the Philippines and to its natives. Rizal’s novel was a way for
the Filipinos to be able to know and acknowledge the truth.
The truth that the Spaniards were no good and is only abusing
the abundancy of our land. From the previous novel of Rizal,
the protagonist is Crisostomo Ibarra, in the second novel the
protagonist is still Ibarra but in disguised of another persona
which is Simoun, a wealthy jeweler. This novel unfolds the
eyes and minds of the Filipinos to look at what’s really
happening. That the Spaniards is abusing everything that
belongs to the Philippines and to the Filipinos. Those abuses
and corruptions didn’t end quickly since there are Filipinos
who joined the forces of the Spaniards resulting into betraying
their own homeland. Our culture is rich because of the history
that we had. This history became an important event
especially to our ancestors. Despite the rich culture that we
got, it can’t erase the fact that our country was once
destroyed by the colonizers who claimed ownership of our
country. Let us not forget all the sacrifices that our dear
ancestors went through just to reclaim the freedom of the
Philippines.
