AMI-1200 Pedestal
DIP Switches
The two banks of eight DIP Switches located at the bottom of the Gate
Control Board are used to set the operation mode and lane control
features for the AMI-1200. The following tables list the settings and
function for each switch. Switch positions are numbered left to right from
1 to 8.
Arm Length (SW1-1): This setting calibrates the gate for the length of the
attached gate arm.
Power Fail Arm Position (SW1-2): This setting determines the position of
the gate arm when a power failure occurs and the Up/Normal/Down
(UND) Switch is set to NORMAL.
l On (UP): The gate arm will be raised in the UP position after a power failure
allowing vehicles to leave the facility.
l Off (DOWN): The gate arm will be left in the DOWN position after a power failure
preventing vehicles from entering or leaving the facility.
l Extra Sensory (UP): The gate raises the arm to the UP position. The arm will
either remain up, or will lower again after a timeout period has passed, as
specified by the ES Timeout Enable switch (SW2-7).
l Gentle Touch (DOWN): The gate arm stops once it strikes an object and remains
in this position until the obstruction is cleared. When the obstruction is cleared
the gate slowly moves (floats) to the DOWN position.
l Enabled (UP): If the gate receives multiple vend requests before the gate arm has
closed, the arm will remain UP until a number of vehicles have crossed Loop C
equal to the number of vend requests. If a backout occurs, the number of stored
vend requests will decrement by one each time the backout timer expires (SW2-
6).
l Disabled (DOWN): The gate will ignore any vend requests until the gate arm has
closed after the current vehicle has left Loop C.
Operation Mode (SW2-1, 2 and 3): The position of these DIP switches
determines the gate's operation mode per the following table. See
Operation Modes for more detail.
l Enabled (UP): When a vehicle backs out of the lane the gate arm will lower after a
timeout period (Backout Timer). The duration of this period is set by the Backout
Timer (SW2-6) setting and starts when a vehicle leaves the A Loop. The timer
continues to run until the vehicle is detected by loops A and C. If the timer expires
without the vehicle crossing the loops the gate arm lowers.
l Disabled (DOWN): The gate leaves the arm in the UP position until a vehicle
crosses the C Loop. If backout function is provided by commands from other lane
equipment then this switch should be in the Disabled position.
l Backout Timer: The amount of time the gate is left in the UP position after a
vehicle leaves Loop A and does not cross Loop C. See Backout Mode (SW2-5) for
more information.
l Extra Sensory Timer: The amount of time the gate arm is left in the UP position
after an Extra Sensory event occurs. See Extra Sensory (SW2-7) for more
information.
ES Timeout Enable (SW2-7): This setting determines when the gate arm
is lowered after an Extra Sensory event occurs. An Extra Sensory event
occurs when the gate arm strikes an object while lowering, or stops for
any reason while lowering. When the Extra Sensory (SW1-5) switch is set
to Extra Sensory and an extra sensory event occurs, the gate raises the
arm to allow the obstruction or input to clear.
l Enabled (UP): The Backout Timer (SW2-6) setting controls the duration that the
arm remains in the UP position before it lowers.
l Disabled (DOWN): The gate will remain in the UP position until a vehicle crosses
the C Loop.
Auto Stop Mode (SW2-8): This setting determines how the gate responds
to a vehicle crossing the C Loop while it lowers the gate arm.
l Enabled (UP): The arm will stop lowering until the vehicle leaves the C Loop. The
arm will then continue to lower after the vehicle leaves the loop.
l Disabled (DOWN): A vehicle on the closing loop will be ignored and the gate arm
will continue to lower.
The DIP Switch settings are read when the AMI-1200 is powered on. To
change the DIP Switch settings:
Status LED
The Status LED on the Control Board displays the operational status of
the AMI-1200. The Status LED can indicate the following:
Battery
The AMI-1200 is equipped with a 12V, 7.0 Amp Hr. battery to raise the
gate in the event of a power failure. The battery is shipped from the
factory disconnected, and should remain so until the gate arm
adjustments have been made. Always keep the battery disconnected and
the power off when installing or servicing the gate.
In the event of a power failure the connected battery can power the gate
for one cycle of operation. To cycle the gate using the battery backup:
1. Press the bypass button on the Gate Control Board and hold until the status light
begins to blink.
2. Release the bypass button and wait for the rate of blinking to change.
3. Within 20 seconds of releasing the button, switch the Up/Normal/Down (UND) switch
to the desired gate position.
The gate arm rises or lowers to the new position and the gate board powers off.
Slow Mode
Slow mode is a built-in safety feature that will raise or lower the gate at a
slow speed when the gate arm is not detected by Up and Down Limit
Switches at power-up. It is intended to protect against driving the gate
arm too fast to the physical stop location. Slow mode will last for one UP
cycle to allow the limit switches to detect the gate arm.

Mounting Surface
The following diagram shows the recommended area for running conduit
into the gate. Conduit in this area must not extend over 2'' (5 cm) above
the mounting surface.
Underneath the shaft protector, the keys will be zip-tied to the gate arm
bracket.
Locate the four bolts securing the unit to the skid. Using a 3/4'' wrench,
loosen and remove the bolts and carefully lift the unit from the skid.
3. Lift the side of the cover above the door and push the cover away from the door to
free the hooks from the tabs on the pedestal.
4. Replace the pedestal door.
1. Align the gate shaft cutout on the side of the cover with the gate shaft.
2. Lower the cover onto the pedestal base, gate arm shaft side first.
3. Pull the cover towards the door to catch the cover hooks on the tabs in the pedestal.
4. Lower the front side of the cover down. The cover will become locked down when the
door is replaced. The bolts on the hood catch the tabs on the back of the door.
3. Lift the drive mechanism and rotate the entire assembly to the desired position.
The gate arm clamp must be perpendicular to the vehicle lane. When re-seating the
mechanism, be sure not to pinch any wires between the mounting plate and the
cabinet.
4. Replace the eight (8) screws on the base plate and tighten.
5. Move the two (2) hood latch tabs to the side directly opposite the door.
6. On the underside of the cover, take the cover bolts and cover latch hooks off, then
replace them in the desired orientation.
The bolts should be on the door side of the cabinet, and the hook latches on the
opposite side.
7. Lining up the gate shaft cutout in the side of the cover with the gate arm shaft, lower
the cover onto the pedestal base and secure.
Installation/Mounting of Pedestal
The AMI-1200 should be secured to a concrete surface using 1/2'' self-
anchoring concrete bolts or 1/2'' bolts for a steel surface. 3/8'' self-
anchoring concrete bolts or 3/8'' bolts may be used as an alternative if
1/2'' bolts are not available. The bolt pattern is as follows:
1. Make sure the installed field wiring is located so that it will not be pinched when
mounting the AMI-1200 gate.
In order to make proper connections, the field wiring must be at least 5 feet in length
from the mounting surface.
2. Remove the cover. (See Cover Removal and Installation
5. Level the pedestal. User washers as necessary under the bolts as shown to level the
pedestal.
6. Secure the pedestal to the anchor bolts of platform.
7. Seal the pedestal to the mounting surface to keep out unwanted pests and moisture
with appropriate caulk or sealant.
8. With the pedestal mounted in place, proceed to make electrical and loop connections
as described further in this chapter.
1. Verify that the power to the field wiring is turned off at its main circuit breaker panel.
2. Set the Main Power Switch to the OFF position.
3. Remove the cover (see Cover Removal and Installation).
4. Loosen the screws securing the Field Connect Box cover. Set the cover and attached
screws aside.
5. Remove one of the Conduit Knockouts on the bottom of the Field Connect Box.
6. Run the main power and ground cables from the field wiring up through the Conduit
Knockout Hole.
7. Use an NEC standard conduit connector to secure the main power conduit to the
Field Connect Box.
8. Connect the HOT or LINE wire from the field to the BLACK wire in the Field Connect
Box.
Installation
3. Insert the detector into the slot on the Gate Control Board.
4. Set the Main Power Switch to the ON position.
5. Test the gate for proper operation.
3. Insert the Gate Arm (3) between the two clamps (4).
4. Push the upper clamp (A) downward toward the lower clamp and tighten the two
screws (B) that hold it in place.
5. Tighten the two screws (D) that hold the lower clamp (C) in place.
Power Up Operation
UP or DOWN: On power-up, the gate arm will not move from its current
position. This is a built-in safety feature that prevents the gate from
moving after a power failure or when the gate has been manually shut
down for maintenance. If the gate is currently UP, a momentary activation
of the C Loop will bring the gate down. Alternatively, toggling the UND
switch to either the UP or DOWN position will cause the gate to move to
the indicated position.
During normal operation the gate arm will travel up until it is detected by
the ULS, or down until it is detected by the DLS. These limit switches
consist of Hall effect sensors with adjustable positions. The ULS sensor
can be adjusted to maximum of 5 degrees of over-travel past vertical, and
a minimum of 70 degrees up from horizontal.
l The gate arm must be installed before attempting to adjust the DLS or ULS.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you have the gate arm in the desired UP position.
6. Secure the ULS sensor in place. Be careful not to move the sensor while you are
tightening the nuts.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you have the gate arm in the desired DOWN position.
6. Secure the DLS sensor in place. Be careful not to move the sensor while you are
tightening the nuts.

If an error occurs, the Error Code is displayed on the 7-segment Error Code
Display in hexadecimal.
Motor
The motor brushes (EZZ-102050) should not need to be replaced over the
life of the gate. If the motor brushes ever do need to be replaced, follow
the procedure below:
The motor brushes should be replaced when the body of the brush has
worn to the brush wear line.
Caution: Place the brushes back into the same side of the
motor and place them in the same orientation (Up or
Down). If the brushes are not replaced in the same
orientation they wear faster. To avoid confusion, check only
one motor brush at a time.
Lubrication
The pillow block bearings on the gate shaft should be lubricated with a
few drops of oil every 100,000 cycles.
Power Switch is set to OFF, and the Battery is disconnected before attempting
to replace or check the fuse.
l Replace the fuse only with the same type and rating of fuse.
6. Carefully pull the fuse holder apart and remove the existing fuse from the fuse
holder.
7. Insert the new fuse into the fuse holder.
8. Insert the fuse and fuse holder cover into the mating cover and press carefully
together until secure.
9. Reconnect the battery.
