 PICK A FRIEND

First of all I would like to ask all of you to give thanks to the
presence of Greatest ALLAH SWT, who has given us the blessing and
guidance, so that we can gather here in this beautiful place. And I also I ask
you to deliver your prayer and greetings to our prophet Nabi Muhammad
SAW, who has brought us which has brought us from dark-age to the age-
lit, so we are always on the right path until the end of the world.

Why is it so important to choose a friend in making friends?

Because some people don't realize that they are slowly changing to
resemble their close friends. So find a friend who can bring you goodness.
The Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam said,

‫ين خَ لِيلِ ِه فَ ْليَ ْنظُرْ أَ َح ُد ُك ْم َم ْن يُخَالِ ُل‬

ِ ‫ال َّر ُج ُل َعلَى ِد‬

"A person follows the deen (religion; habits; morals) of his close friends.
Therefore, one of you should pay attention to who he makes a close friend."
(HR. Abu Dawud, Silsilah ash-Shahihah no. 927)

In another hadith, the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him
peace, also said:

ِ ‫ فَ َحا ِم ُل ْال ِمس‬، ‫ير‬

ْ ْ َ‫ َوإِ َّما أ‬، َ‫ْك إِ َّما أَ ْ ْ يُحْ ِذيَك‬ ِ ‫خ ْال ِك‬
ِ ِ‫ْك َونَاف‬ ِ ‫ح َوالسَّوْ ِء َك َحا ِم ِل ْال ِمس‬
ِ ِ‫يس الصَّال‬ ِ ِ‫َمثَ ُل ْال َجل‬
‫ َوإِ َّما أَ ْ ْ ت َِج َد ِريحًا خَ بِيثَة‬، َ‫ق ثِيَابَك‬ ِ ‫ َونَافِ ُخ ْال ِك‬، ً‫ َوإِ َّما أَ ْ ْ ت َِج َد ِم ْنهُ ِريحًا طَيِّبَة‬، ُ‫تَ ْبتَا َع ِم ْنه‬
َ ‫ير إِ َّما أَ ْ ْ يُحْ ِر‬
"The example of a good friend and a bad friend is like a perfume seller and
a blacksmith. A perfume seller may give you perfume, or you can buy
perfume from him, and even if not, you still get a good smell from him. As
for the blacksmith, it may (the sparks) touch your clothes, and even if not
you still get the unpleasant smell of the smoke." (HR. Bukhari 5534 and
Muslim 2628)

Close friends can be a good influence or a bad influence. Many

people gradually become good, because under the influence of good
friends, And many people slowly change for the worse, also because of the
influence of bad friends. So this is where it is important for us to find and
choose righteous friends as our close friends or friends, because their
existence will be able to bring goodness to the world and the hereafter. May
Allah ‫ ﷻ‬give taufiq and protect us from bad friends
